I have some questions about FW versions...
My drive is SHM-165H6S, HS0E. Which FW is better to use? I'm going to burn more DL than SL discs in the future, and probably will not use DVD-RAM at all. Here is discussions about HV9N and HS0E, but nothing about PV9N. What the difference between it and HV9N?
And, some doubts about HV9N. Archive name is "165H6S.HV9N503.patched-16xOS.rar", but contains "165P6S.HV9N503.patched-16xOS.exe". Is it OK? I don't want to damage my drive...

You are right, the filename inside the archive is wrong, but the content is ok. Beside the 7 byte patch, the firmware inside of 165P6S.HV9N503.patched-16xOS.exe is identical to the original HV9NWINHT503 firmware. You can also verify the firmware id with MCSE, it says:

+R's have speed "7X-16X" in CDSpeed2000, so they are OK.
I dont have -R at all, because I saw charts and read (here ) that pluses have a lower PI&PIF, before bying my first DVD-burner, so I always buy only +R.

I think that the word was incorrect. I mean "read speed lock".
As I understand from the first post, HV9N should read double layer DVD's up to 12x.

zoxbo, +R DL is still 8x in the test firmware (HV9N, MV9N). DVD-ROM DL is 12x and all +R/-R is 16x.

Firmware with the -RS patch is 12x for all media that was limited to 8x reading.

actually it's 11.2x for my 165h6s and 1635s. not 12x

I got it working again today, turns out it was the damn nvidia pata drivers
weird thing is it worked fine with the same nvidia drivers ~6 months ago

You probably didn't have ASPI drivers installed ~6 months ago as well. NVidia and ASPI drivers don't work together with LiteOn tools. One has to go.

Yes it still does.
This has always been the case with LiteOn drives and cannot be changed. A full 8GB disc gets close to 12x.

Hopefully yes. I've done the patch to increase the 12x burn speed but I haven't been able to try it yet to see how well it works. Another issue is that later firmwares for this model don't have enough space for the patch routine in the required bank, so a far more complex patch is required.

Hi I have a SHW-16H5S burner with 16H5S.LV4D.patched-fbd-16xOS-rs firmware.
My Fujifilm DVD-RW 2X (RITEKW01) won't erase but when I revert back to 16H5S.LS0R, LS0W or any firmware without FBD it works. However, if I erase my disc using the LS0R or LS0W, I can burn the disc using LV4C or LV4D. I tried LV4D FBD and LV4C FBD and still doesn't work. I also tried turning both force hypertuning and online hypertuning on and both off..but no luck.

Ya I know I should chuck those discs out and buy new ones...but I was wondering if there was a solution instead of having to flash the drive each time just to erase the discs. Thanks.
