| Liteon 2H 2002 Roadmap Recent rumours of a higher speed CDRW are confirmed. LTR-52326S * LTR-48246S/W * LTR-48166S/W LTR-48126S LTR-40126S/W * Require verification of new 20x+ RW media. Support CAV, Mt Rainier, OB3V3 ext, etc. SATA supported by MT1510. 12x SKUs are in the channel already. 12x/16x RW units have 2MB buffer (proto units), 24x & higher are unknown (not decided yet?). MT1506/8/10 chipsets support 8/16MB. It's interesting given the availability & price difference of 2, 4, & 8MB modules that a larger buffer isn't used. FW will require rewrite, but marketing alone may be worth it... There is a reason why FW is updated for the newer CDRW drives simultaneously - the same code base - so there's a reluctance to change this... Perhaps with SATA drives... Other manufacturers will announce 52x24x52 & 50x24x50 products based on Sanyo/Ricoh logic. No word yet on Liteon DVDRW units. MTK has had new LSI for some time... Addendum: I omitted the following models: LTR-52246S/W LTR-52206S LTR-52166S The last two are likely to be OEM & depend on various factors. Last edited by stevem; 05-07-2002 at 11:17. |

| As to your 20x+ CD-RWs: These are the so called Ultra Speed CD-RWs (so to say, first we had "CD-RW", then "High-Speed", and now, the next generation is "Ultra-Speed"), and Mitsubishi already makes them. Yamaha 44/24/44 works fine with them.

As they both use the Mediatek 6 chipset, it is easy to overclock the LTR 481246S to a LTR 52246S using the firmware readily available right now. It is quite possible that you may be able to increase it to a faster RW speed later, again using the next firmware release. | |
