Have you had bad Liteon 1693 burns following a 16X burn (visible burn ring)?

I noticed a problem a while ago where my Liteon 1693 with KC4B had turned out a series of bad burns with an identifying ring about 1/4 inch from center. This was on any disc.

I moved the drive off the external chipset moving it onto the IDE chanel, reflashed the learning, and reflashed the firmware and all is well.

Now another poster has had the same problem after burning 16X media. I recall I had also burned 16X media right before the problem occured but I never made any connection as I had just moved the drive to the external case.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?
