No problem. Sometimes one thing leads to another and before you know it there's an interesting discussion about something else. If it's just a couple of posts I don't worry about it but when it looks like it could continue (like in this case), I'll split it to it's own thread.

Yes, you should also be able to backup the firmware of your Sony DW-G120A.

Re: Flash Utility for LiteOn Based Optical Drives (v2.0.0)

Looks like a great tool!

Is this Flash Utility my best option for being able to flash my drive without having to move it to an IDE cable each time?

I just received a nice external enclosure that has the Cypress T2 IDE -->USB 2.0 part in it. When my LH-20A1H arrives next week I plan to install it in this enclosure.

I had to move my old Sony 710A to an IDE cable every time I flashed because it was in a very old case with an old Prolific chipset.

Thanks.

Re: Flash Utility for LiteOn Based Optical Drives (v2.0.1)

Version 2.0.1 released

Fixed a bug that could cause a strange drive ID to be displayed after a flash. The flash was still successful but the drive ID in the Flash Utility looked very strange.

Re: Flash Utility for LiteOn Based Optical Drives (v2.0.1)

Hi,

I'd like to flash my LH-20A1H from LL06 to latest (LL0A?).
Currently running Linux.
The Flash Utility starts under wine in seems to detect one of my drives OK.

S:_NEC DVD+-RW ND-2510A 205C 05072100

However the Liteon does not appear.
The following error appears on the console :
Code:
[lordy@morpheus liteon-LH20A1H]$ wine Flash_Utility.exe
err:reg:SCSI_getprocentry SCSI type line scan count error (fscanf returns 1, expected 2)
fixme:aspi:SendASPI32Command ASPI: Partially implemented SC_HA_INQUIRY for adapter 0.
fixme:aspi:SendASPI32Command ASPI: Partially implemented SC_HA_INQUIRY for adapter 1.
fixme:aspi:SendASPI32Command ASPI: Partially implemented SC_HA_INQUIRY for adapter 2.
fixme:aspi:SendASPI32Command ASPI: Partially implemented SC_HA_INQUIRY for adapter 3.
I dont mind risking my Liteon if I can get this flashed under Linux.
I'd try to readFlash first

Is there a debug mode or something I can try? Or open source
I wouldnt mind helping with a port? Anything ?!?!

[I was so used to flashing my NECS from Linux I forgot to factor that in when I bought this on Sunday]

-- edit

Unhooked my NEC. Reran and now no devices detected (but Liteon is present as /dev/hda)
But a lot more output this time...
Code:
err:reg:SCSI_getprocentry SCSI type line scan count error (fscanf returns 1, expected 2)

Maybe a native Linux flasher will be best. meanwhile I wonder of you can flash via vmware? Are there any Windows based flashers whose code I can look at?

Cheers,

There's a post in another thread here
from back in March, from a member that appears
to be running Linux with a LiteOn drive.
You might try to contact him.

Have you tried as root? Wine doesn't work well with IDE drives in my experience, but I can get my SATA and USB burners recognized:

Cheers. No difference with root. I guess it may have work using the old ide-scsi module, which I happened to leave out when I built my kernel ! oops!

I think I'll take the easy route and take it round my mates house!

Wow, worked perfectly for me. Bought as an OEM and listed as a DH20A1P, but now have the LH20A1P firmware on there.

Re: Flash Utility for LiteOn Based Optical Drives (v2.0.1)

Hi.
In my standalone Nintaus DVD player now a LiteOn lh-16D1P does the work with reduced speed to 4x and absolutey no noise.
The problem I have is, when I play an mp3-Cd, the drive thinks, it is a data cd and (in fact it is ) , although smart-x is enabled, the drive doesn´t reduce its speed.
Is there any possibility in the firmware to limit the reading speed of data-CDs ? Unfortunately omnipatcher doesn't provide this feature

thanks
Heiko

Re: Flash Utility for LiteOn Based Optical Drives (v2.0.1)

Nero drive speed can't help me, because my drive is, as you can read a few rows above, build into a standalone DVD player. It means that the read speed can only be limited by firmware and not by any other program which can run in parallel on a PC.

Sorry, we have no plans in the near future to locate and patch the CD-R read speeds.

I don't quite understand. Does this tool contain the latest firmware available for the compatible Lite-On drives?

This is the tool to let you flash the Lite-On firmwares, in .BIN or .EXE formats

Ah ok, I thought the tool had the latest versions of Lite-On's firmwares built into it. Where do I get the *.bin or *.exe files to flash my SATA LH-20A1L-06 ?

Those are two "sticky" threads that you can find listed as "Read first" at the top of the LiteOn DVD Burner / Sony DVD Burner forum:

Comprehensive LiteOn Tools Collection (v5.0.7) (revised on 8 January 2007)

Re: Flash Utility for LiteOn Based Optical Drives (v2.1.0) *NEW*

Flash Utility Version 2.1.0 Released

Just a small change. People thought they needed a .bin file to flash their drive as the default file load prompt only showed *.bin files. So I've now made it default to *.bin and *.exe files.

Note: You must use a .exe flasher file from our site.

Version: v2.1.0 (10 August 2007)
The default file filter, when selecting a file to flash, is now (Binary/Flasher) *.bin and *.exe
