Yes. It detects the drive now. Saved file is an exact match with the one saved with ltnflash124.exe

Notice the flash ID isn´t labeled unknown. However the warning still apear.

Re: Firmware/Flash Reader Utility for LiteOn Based Optical Drives (v1.0.6)

Thanks engine. That message should really say "The Flash ID is not known. The...". That message should only be displayed once, as the Flash ID and size index are saved in an INI file.

I'll add that Flash ID to the next version. If anyone else gets this message please report the ID and the flash size, so I can add it to the next version. Thanks.

Here's a sneak peak of the next version. I've had to change the name.

Yeah, it's really too bad that you have to change the name for v2.0!

From "Flash Reader Utility" to just "Flash Utility". With the ability to write flash.

So that was the reason. I thought maybe Macromedia intervened?

If I am not mistaken, Adobe bought it from Macromedia.

Re: Flash Utility for LiteOn Based Optical Drives (v2.0.0) ** COMING SOON **

Announcing the release of Flash Utility v2

Well as you have probably seen, this tool is now called the Flash Utility. The reason for this is because this tool can now write the Flash as well as read it. When I first started this tool I wasn't sure that I would be able to do the writing side of it, as it's quite an involved process. LiteOn wisely didn't limit themselves to one manufacturer's flash part in a model, like some of the other drive manufactures, so the flasher has to download a special flash writer to the drive that supports the Flash part installed, hence the reason for the Flash ID. But I'm not one to let a challenge beat me too easily, in fact it tends to make me more determined, so here it is. It should support a lot of what LtnFW supported plus all of the new flash parts, that I know of, as well. Enjoy!

Features:
Reading of Flash
Writing of Flash
Supports firmware BIN files or unscrambled Flasher EXE files
Supports up to 8MB reading
Supports up to 2MB writing
Auto learning of Flash ID and size for reading
Multi-threaded operation for write progress display

Please let me know if your drive's flash is not supported and I will see what I can do to support it. This only applies to DVD writers though.

Thanks. I was wondering where the "Reader" name disappeared to. Confirmed that it works through USB and 1394 also.

Re: Flash Utility for LiteOn Based Optical Drives (v2.0.0) ** RELEASED **

Is it normal for the Flash image created for a Lite-On DVD-ROM is only 256kB?
I have a LITE-ON DVD SHD-16P1S and Flash Utility calculates the Flash size as 256KB.

One last thing, can I patch the created *.bin file with Omnipatcher and then write the patched flash with Flash Utility?

cheers

Re: Flash Utility for LiteOn Based Optical Drives (v2.0.0) ** RELEASED **

I'm pleased there doesn't seem to be any issues with v2. I'll add it to the LiteOn Tools Collection and the FAQ, when I get the chance.

Hi.

Wanna flash my LH-18A1H fw. HL01 to fw. HL03. Do I have to select "Update boot code" or not?

Re: Flash Utility for LiteOn Based Optical Drives (v2.0.0)

EnricoW, you don't need to use the Flash Utility to flash to HL03, even though it will do it.

Just run the EXE file in the packed file here and it will flash it for you.

OK, just thought I had to 'cause I was sent the HL03.bin only.
Just curious, would I have to select "Update boot code"?

Re: Flash Utility for LiteOn Based Optical Drives (v2.0.0)

No you don't need to but in saying that the EXE firmware flasher always updates it anyway. It's really only needed for a crossflash, so that the boot code contains the same model name as the firmware.

OK. It's HL03 now.
I'm just a bit worried 'cause after flashing I restarted my computer as it said on the screen and when I came to the Login screen my computer crashed. Now I hope this did not affect my writer's firmware or something.

Flashing is finished when the flasher says so, no need to worry.
