Firmware-gurus-question: disable audio caching in 16H5S?

Hi

a question for the firmware gurus here: would it be possible to make a firmware, which disable audio caching in the LiteOn 16H5S?
The reason I am asking is, that currently I am transferring my complete CD-collection to HD using EAC and did just buy the 165HS, which caches audio.

I know, that there is an option in EAC to overread the audio-cache, but I think, it would be even better, also in terms of performance, if audio-caching was disabled in the drive from the start...

So: any chances to achieve that? Anybody to modify a current LiteOn Firmware?

Thanks and have a great new year!!!!

Re: Firmware-gurus-question: disable audio caching in 16H5S?

Hello dvdr,

Never say never, but modifiying firmwares is a difficult task because the whole thing is in machine opcodes, so you have to diassemble the code to get the program in asm. But even after that you have to read thousand & thousand lines of code without a single comment. In this context, retrieving code part that allow caching for data, and disabling it only for audio type data stream is nearly impossible.

That said even with cache enabled and cache overwrite, the performance should still be adequate.

Happy new year,
Fred.
