Re: Changing write strategies (results thread)

Hi
Just adding some scans to help people out:

812s@832s VS08 Omnipatched V1.3.8
recommended tweaks applied also
earlier shift , force shift, fix dead drive

these 2 burns are from the same batch of 25 bulkpaq (uk)
same iso burned to both discs

#1 prodisc s03 burned at 8x with F01 Strat

#2 prodisc s03 burned at 8x with GSC003 strat

which is the best scan ?
also how the hell so i upload pngs from kprobe instead of links -_-

Re: Changing write strategies (results thread)

Ok, first try at this - please don't lynch me

Media: Datawrite yellow v2 (Ritek G05) 4x branded.
Burner: 832s@8x using VS0A
First burn using official firmware.
Second burn using omnipatched G05=>g06 strategy.
On the second you can clearly see where the drive has changed writing speed, but it still reads fine in the same driver it was burned - even the last bit that otherwise doesn't look too healthy.

JUst a minor correction (how come I can't edit my post?): When I say you can clearly see where it has changed speed I mean physically on the disc. Not refering to the kprobe graphs.

Media: Datawrite yellow v2 (Ritek G05) 4x branded.
Burner: 832s@6x using VS0A
Burn using omnipatched G05=>g06 strategy.
This one is same firmware as the second one above but burning at 6x instead of 8x. The disc no longer physically shows where speed was adjusted and the scan is much similiar to the above @ 8x, but with a much nicer ending. I guess this is resonable enough considering the media itself is only branded for 4x, even if the drive's smartburn does insist on it being 8x compatible.

Drives:
SOHW-812S
SOHW-812S in a 8-bay firewire casing
Both on US0N
Media:
RitekG05

Speed of Burn: 8x using Nero.

The first two tests were done burning the same iso of a dvd movie at 8x using nero. It was burnt using the default strategies from Omnipatcher (IE RITEKG05)

The last two were done burning two other iso's of dvd movies at 8X using nero. the isos were on the same drive's folder. It Was burnt using RitekG06 strats.

Re: Changing write strategies (results thread)

Before RicohjpnR01 stock strategy. Burned 4x
After RicohjpnR01@MCC003. Burned 8x.
This is my lowest pi yet, Results are comparable to the one burned with VS04. I didn't save any R01 scans with VS0A because they were almost identical. But keep in mind the original disc was burned at 4x the strat swapped was burned at 8x Before
After:

Re: Changing write strategies (results thread)

Attached are three quaility test from the three different programs. The disc is a FUJI 4X Brand - RicohJPNR01 @ R02 - 12X burn - 1213S.

Not too bad except for the 12X zone. But the disk is playable on my computer drives and also two standalone players with no problem.

Re: Changing write strategies (results thread)

Since I could not get a good 8x burn with YUDENT01's, I tried switching the strategy to RICOHJPN R02/03. I got a much better 8x burn. However, I still wanted to see if a 4x burn would work well with this strat also, and it was ok. Using the YUDEN strat, however, my 4x PIs were about half. Does this matter, or can I get away with this kprobe result? Too bad you can't have different strategy assignments based on the speed.

Re: Changing write strategies (results thread)

Ricoh (Sony DVD+R) 4x burned at 8x
RICOHJPNR01 to MCC-003 write strategy swap.

Burned and scanned with: Lite-On SOHW-812S@832, FW: VS08 Omnipatched
On disc: Movie, LOTR
Burned with: latest CopytoDVD
Comment: Better result than plain RICOHJPNR01 burn @8, but not as good as mine earlier R01/R02 swap´s on a Z-modded 411@811, though.

Re: Changing write strategies (results thread)

This is the best burn my 812@832 with VSOA has done on Princo 4x.
I am using ProdiscS04 writing strategy burning at 4 speed.

Interestingly, my Panasonic DVD home player doesn't like the disk whereas my Sony DVD home player has no problems. My Pioneer A05 burner also has no problem reading the disk and Nero VD-DVD Speed reported no problems.

Re: Changing write strategies (results thread)

This is a scan of a value disc 4x dvd+r(cmcmag f01) burnt at 6x on an 812@851(yes that's correct 812@851) using firmware GSOK strat swaped to prodisc r03. The burn was done simultaneoulsy using another 851s with same firmware and strategy swap!

cmcmag f01@prodisc r03 using 812s@851s using GSOK

the 851s scan was almost identical except it had about 5 more pi but po where the same!!I had to remove the force fall back feature cause this amazinly(dont know why) was giving me higher pis(about 30-45) in the 4x region of the burn. Who said cmcmag was crap?

Re: Changing write strategies (results thread)

Allrighty, more OptoDisc 0R4 tests from me.

Today I tried to fix the extremely batch of OptoDiscs I bought - labeled Intenso DVD+R 4x or something. While other OptoDiscs 0R4s burned at 8x used to give me 1-3average PI, this batch gave on average of 35:

GSC2, stock strat, 8x

GSC2, prodisc r02, 8x

VS0A, stock strat, 8x

well one thing I did figure out - this batch is really flawed. But it can be improved! take a look:

VS0A, OptoDisc 0R8, 8x

VS0A, yuden T02, 8x

and the winner:

VS0A, prodisc R03, 8x

what's important to notice, that up to problem area, it was running below 1.5 average PI! that's pretty nice for such cheapo media, right? considering this is a terrible batch!

i'm gonna try some from a good batch now

Re: Changing write strategies (results thread)

hi to everybody,
indeed I want to thank code64k, codeking, jamos and pdu.
thanks to their interventions in this forum, I have succeeded in inserting the code of the dvd+r IS01 001 in the firm US0Q.
I have been able to feel then different strategies, that I attach in this post.
I have found many problems with the dvds of brand budget, of blue color, that you/they result not legible with the generic strategy.
I have had less problems with the dvds without brand, of white color.
someone of you has effected some test with these economic dvds with id: IS01 001?
