| longten 001 -> longten 009 longten 001 dvd-r burned with longten 009 strat. Burned with DVDDecrypter [may not have closed burn? didn't see it in log] USON on a sohw-812s with earlier shift, force shifting and force-fallback. First is original strat, second is swap. Swap did not work out. |

| g04 -> g06 g04 dvd-r burned with g06 strat, at 8x. USON on 812s, all 3 burn options and autobitsetting ticked. Disk is unlabled bulk. Burned with DVDdecrypter, the speed was odd. The first 10% was at 2.5x, then 4x up to 40%, then the last 60% at 8x. The disc has 3 different coloured rings on it The burn was a disaster. ![]() |

To my greatest surprise it seems that the write results of the TEAC are generally worse than the write results of the LiteOn drives. Nevertheless, I'm quite happy with this result. Thank you for the omnipatcher, it RULES ![]() |

| Re: Changing write strategies (results thread) This is about the best i can do with this media and drive it seems. i know others were getting better results with E01 media but this is hp media which like memorex latley is dropping a bit in quality. still though a very acceptable burn. Average: 144.30 ___ PIF Max: 222 .. Average: 11.48 Conclusion: With a LiteOn 851 using Arita (Ridata) branded RICOHJPNR00 media, - 2.4x produced consistently amazing burns. Obvious choice for highest quality. - For 4x, RICOHJPNR02 and RICOHJPNR01 swaps produced the best and penultimate quality (among those tested) - For 8x, RITEK02 and RICOHJPN02 swaps produced the best and penultimate quality (among those tested) - At 8x, RICOHJPN01 swap, the "stock" Omnipatch patch, produced partially dysfunctional DVDs - Burning from Nero image files (.NRG) with this setup is not recommended. Extract first. Thanks to code65536 & C0deKing for making this possible. Last edited by mrbill21; 15-07-2004 at 09:04. |

| Re: Changing write strategies (results thread) Firstly I tried to burn GSC002 DVD-R rated for 4x at 8x. (812S @ 832S VS08). This went better than I anticipated, burn succesful, verify OK. Here's K-scan of GSC002 written at 8x (simple overspeed, no burn strategy changed): Encouraged by this quite good result, considering it's cheap media (Esperanza Special Quality Edition), I changed burn strategy of GSC002 to GSC003, which is rated for 8x. Here's scan of second disk (GSC002 @ GSC003 strat, 8x write): And I think it's even better than the first, cause when I looked at disk write surface I noticed that zone rings are more uniform with GSC003 strat. When I used default GSC002 strat and 8x overspeed, zone burn rings are more visible, with 4x zone being the darkest and 8x zone being normal in reflexibility. This effect is also visible on K-scans. BTW, MCC 10RG20 (Verbatim DVD-R, 4x) media (supposedly better than GSC002) failed to burn at 8x (bad blocks at 8x zone). Seems that cheapo GSC002 is quite good in terms of quality... |

| Re: Changing write strategies (results thread) Burner Drive: LITE-ON 451@832 Firmware: VSO8 Strategy: CMC MAG/F01/00 @ PRODISC/R03/00 1st Disc Scan: HP - 8X burn speed 2nd Disc Scan: Khypermedia - 4X burn speed Program: Nero 5.5.10.56 When I upgraded to the new VSO8 firmware thanks again, codeguys , I noticed that my CMC MAG/F01/00 ->CMC MAG/R01/00 strategy no longer produced good Kprobe results, so I went looking for another strategy - and I found this PRODISC strategy produces reasonably good results. As usual, the HP media burns better than the KhyperMedia discs, even though both have the same media code. |

| RITEKR03-02 using YUDEN000T02 strategy at 8x Drive/firmware: LDW-451S@SOHW-832S, VSC3 (early-shifting, shift-fixing) Media type: RITEKR03-02, red-shrinkwrapped RiDATA inkjet printables from Newegg Burn speed: 8x Here is a "before" burn, at 8x, using the original RITEKR03-02 strategy: ![]() And here it is after switching to a YUDEN000T02 strategy: ![]() When played in a standalone, the disc burned with the stock strat exhibits pixelation at the end while the disc burned with the TY strat played back smoothly. This is consistent with the KProbe scans. Because RiTEK media has been known to vary from disc to disc within a batch, I repeated the experiment. The results from this second set of trials were pretty much the same.

| RICOHJPNR01 @8x 01 strat seems better than 02 I got nice result with RICOHJPNR01@RICOHJPNR02 @8x with my 812@832 VS08 but I wanted to test it with RICOHJPNR01 strat, I've to say that RICOHJPNR01 strat seems better. I'm appending scans.

| Re: Changing write strategies (results thread) okay, I have been going nuts trying to get these prodisc s03 to work good with a lite on burner. I switched back to us0n after reading and experiancing worse burns with vs08/vs0a. all are at 8X I think i may have finaly found a decent strat for these discs. first burn is is done at daxon008. actualy i was pleasantly suprised to see the results, not to bad at all the second is at mxl rg03. not the worst, but not the best either the last one floored me. its gsc03. not bad at all! |
