812s @ 832s w/ CG5J - 8x RITEKG05s hi everyone. i've always used ridata dvds because i've never had any problems with them and scans were always good. but i haven't burned anything for quite a while and didn't know about the bad quality the g05s were and bought another 50pk of ritek to find out they were g05s. initially, my firmware was the first released us01 and did not like these dvds at all. i updated my firmware to the latest us0s and it did not like it, either. i crossflashed to the vs0j (i think it is) 832s and was able to burn a readable dvd -- but the pi/po scan barely changed, if it did at all. so now i was able to burn readable, but badly burned, dvds. i tried different speeds, reset rlm and am now trying different writing strategies. it seemed that people were getting very good results with g06 strat, but.. well, i got barely better than default strat. i've tried MXLRG03 and produced a dvd that wasn't readable. i'm currently testing TTG02 as i've seen someone else who had a good experience with it. i was wondering what else i should try that was good for a RitekG05 8x? i've already wasted more than 10 dvds and i'm no longer willing to waste anymore trying things and want to minimize losses now. any suggestions? if anything, here are my first burns and tests: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread....83#post1195429

Re: Changing DVD±R write strategies (results thread) hmmm..was juz lookin few first few pages of this post, and there was a picture of a wrongly used strat for a dvd disc, which showed the extra swirls around the disc. i was juz lookin through my cheapo discs i bought a while ago, and it had the same thing. i was using yuden strat on these...but the discs were gud burns, shud i be worried??? yea, and i was lookin at one of those discs where i didn't change the strat, and there were no swirls.... maybe that's why my burner has broken recently and i juz purchased a new one! and yea, i've juz burnt two ritek-ro03 discs, with default strat on my 1635s, and there's no swirls, but with my 832s when i burnt them using the recommended tweaks, there is a single swirl near centre, is this normal? thanks Last edited by vdk_au; 22-12-2005 at 03:05.

Re: Changing DVD±R write strategies (results thread) When my stock of Verbatim 8x +R ran out and I could not find any more in this city I decided to update the firmware and try some different brands of 8x +R. I changed the firmware to US0S Patched with the 'force fallback' option and burned one disc. I was shocked at the poor quality. KProbe result:

Re: Changing DVD±R write strategies (results thread) I then decided to try the stock US0S but didn't have another Mitsubishi disc so I wrote the same data to a HP one instead. The PI count on this is 3x that of about 100 discs burned on Verbatim 8x +R MCC003 with patched US0N. Maybe the one Mitsubishi was a bad disc. I expected it to be almost identical to all the Verbatims, both being MCC003. KProbe result:

Re: Changing DVD±R write strategies (results thread) I'd better clarify one point in my first post. The disc was burned in June 2004 with unpatched US0N but tested today with KProbe, the writer having had the firmware change yesterday. If the Verbatim 8x +R become available again in Bangkok I'll go back to them. If not, I really don't know what media, firmware combination to use. I can't afford at US$2 per disc to test dozens of discs.

Re: Changing DVD±R write strategies (results thread) A RiDisc (CMC MAG E01) @ MCC003 burnt at 8x, I've never been so confused with a scan ![]() - PIF errors are very high but don't go over 250, still the PIF total goes way over 100,000 (I believe this was the value I've seen to be the ideal target below which you want to be). - PI errors are so low that I'm amazed, still the PI total goes over 500. Please guys help me out here, is this media reliable or not so much? (Many say that PI errors are more reliable to tell about the media's quality than the PIF ones, but I'm confused).

Re: Changing DVD±R write strategies (results thread) This thread has been dead for quite a while now, but with help from a friend on this forum I'll try to bring it back to life... MID: RITEK-R03 (Maxell branded) Type: DVD+R 8x rated Write strategy: RITEK-R04 Burned with: CD-DVD Speed 4.70 Burned as: Create Disc Burned at: 16x speed Burntime: 5:53 On disc: Movie ISO 4,31GB Drive/Firmware: LH-18A1P @LH-20A1P / KL05 OHT=On. This is problematic media to overspeed in general, I'm surprised with the good outcome. .
