any idea what drive is inside the shiney sony enclosure? Is it a Lite On drive? If so, any chance you can flash the firmware and make it a lite-on one so that you can make it RPC region 1?

Thanks in advance. The drive looks and reviewed good. I have the LiteOn SHM-165P6SX External on my mind. As it can be easily made to work in RPC region 1, and has good reading for Audio protected CDs.

I guess to add to this after some more research I have more questions. Is this drive a Sony 18x DRU-830A mounted in a nice external enclosure? Which would mean it's a Samsung SH-S182D SB02???

Thank you for the information.

I'm not a PC specialist but a friend mentioned that I cannot burn protected DVD without modifing the firmware of a new Sony DRX 830U. I have anydvd and whatever software exists but nothing works. Could someone help me to modify, if possible, the firmware to burn protected DVD?
