| Re: CDFreaks presents: the Sony DRU-820A DVD Burner Review Hi zevia: Thanks for the reply. When i said MKM001 i should have made it clear that the disc's are Verbatim. From other post in this thread it seems that only the Verbatim r-9s are supported. Do you have a link for the old firm ware 1.0a. And also maybe i just have a bad batch of Veratim's mkm001. Im waiting for a raincheck for the Verbatim mkm001 to come in so when i get the new batch i will try those right away and report back. |

| Re: CDFreaks presents: the Sony DRU-820A DVD Burner Review Hello. My first time here. I bought this burner just awhile ago and I was wondering if I can hook it up to an external enclosure coz I only have a laptop as of the moment. IF yes, would you please recommend a good enclosure or atleast what chipset I should look for? My laptop is a Dell 9100 w/ USB 2.0 and Firewire (P4 3.0Ghz + 1gb ram) Thank you very much in advance! |

| Re: CDFreaks presents: the Sony DRU-820A DVD Burner Review I finally bought mine, I noticed in the manual that you can hold the eject button for 5 seconds and the light will blink upon entering "turbo mode" which allows burning cdr's at a higher speed. Just thought I'd throw that in, also you can get the drive relatively cheaply ($46.99) using the method I used: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1041392 Havent used the drive too much, but that black bezel mixed with the silver tray plate looks nice on my dark silver case. ;o) |

| Re: CDFreaks presents: the Sony DRU-820A DVD Burner Review LoS, welcome. Congrats on the 820A. So far, the burner isn't too bad using the 1.0b firmware. I got mine for roughly $30 using the method mentioned here. ![]()

| Re: CDFreaks presents: the Sony DRU-820A DVD Burner Review Well, two things you need to make the deal work: 1) BB still has the 820A for 69.99 starting on Sunday, and 2) Staples has some FAR filler to get past $75. Then it will work. But it may not be worth the hassle, and ~$50 is still a good price compared to $100.

| Re: CDFreaks presents: the Sony DRU-820A DVD Burner Review I have the Sony 820-1.0b for 2 months it's always on the safe side compared to the BenQ 1655 They run totally different from each other The Sony 820 always has a good end product you don't need to adjust a thing. The BenQ 1655 is vary fast at making coasters from that list of media that the 820 is slower at in the review. The 820 zero coasters, including the the slower speed media listed In the review. The BenQ 1655 performs like a bulldozer when it scans and burns. The Sony 820 performs like it's wants to get the job done correctly the first time when it scans and burns. I would use the BenQ 1655 for a rental movie player or bad disc recovery. It does this job great, with extremely scratched and dirty discs or corrupted data. The BenQ is good at filling in completely missing data. That process is called concealment methods such as interpolation, data substitution or signal muting The scanning of the Sony 820 is right on. It's not to tight, not to loose for accurate data. I tested using this http://www.digital-recordings.com/cdcheck/cdcheck.html |

| Re: CDFreaks presents: the Sony DRU-820A DVD Burner Review I have this Sony DRU-820A and I have used Memerex DVD+R 16 X (120 minutes with dvd shrink 3.2, saw 2 is dark, and I think I tried verbatim before with no luck. Even with this manual for this dvd, I am completely confused about what speed disks and brand to use to copy my movies, especially long ones...anyone mess with final destination 3 yet?

| Re: CDFreaks presents: the Sony DRU-820A DVD Burner Review Mine sucks The only reason I have this burner is because my other two burners ate it. And I use Sony Vegas and Architect-- so its compatible. Otherwise, its a piece of crap, the slowest burner I have ever had in my life. When it runs, my entire computer is virtually unusable. Discs take for freaking ever to write. Not recommended unless you are desperate. |
