ok, i just bought a PacDigi Lite-ON 811s HS0R (an abosolute steal for under $40)-- it burns & reads CDs great, solid 40x, reads DVDs remarkably, but refuses to write a DVD.

In Nero CD/DVD Speed, with any media inserted, it gives me a "PARAMETER VALUE INVALID (052602)" error, and burning an ISO in Nero 6.6 results in a lock up while Caching. figuring this was a fluke, i took a whack with the bundled Sonic package, similar result, but it actually rebooted my machine. *sigh*

system: xp pro; athlon 2100; 512 ddr266; 120g maxtor; MSI km2m; sblive platinum

this is really discouraging, my TDK 840g is going TU and will only operate in MWDMA mode 2, working, but barely, the dvd's it's putting out are not readable at the outer edges so i would hate to have to take this LiteON back.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, btw -- i've tried some other fw's hs0q & hs0r, no dice with either

You posted the file, but had better attached it using the manage attachment button.
Deinstall your via ide driver and reboot. If this does not help also deinstall the sonic software.

ok, had to reinstall windows, but it's working. obviously the VIA 4in1. that's really too bad. thx for the help, it's really appreciated.

on an off topic, my first DVDVideo i put out starts crapping out about 2/3 of the way through -- repetitive artifacting, skipping sound... basicly locks up the player, any ideas?

Why did you not simply deinstall the driver ?
Use KProbe v2.4.2 or Nero CD-DVD Speed do a BLER/Quality Test of the disc that failed and post the result.
To save and attach a KProbe or Nero scan:
After the scan is complete, click the small diskette button on the toolbar or title bar and at the save as dialog select a file type of .PNG. Attach the saved file to your post by using the "Manage Attachments" button in the "postreply", "Go Advanced" or "Quotepost" mode.

was having problems after un-install, windows would re-detect the controller and lock up the system -- anyway... will try that with the discs tho, thx for the assistance, you've reaffirmed my faith in humanity

here are the results from my first burn with the 811s (tested w/ KProbe2), it's on an HP (CMC MagF01) disc -- it got to 103% and i stopped it -- several Servo errors occured after 72% or so. hate to say it, i don't really what most of this means. this disc was burned @ 4x in Nero.

here are the results of the second disc burned, same ISO image, Maxell media in Alcohol 120% @ 8x (i couldn't bear to have another coaster, it's been a good 6 months up until last week, and i've dumped like $20 into coasters in the past 2 days, I just trust Alcohol more - specialization and all - otherwise i'd have used Nero again) . i think my problems are probably media related, the HP discs and the Teon discs i've had an abundance of (i work @ Staples they're on sale ALL the time 4.94 is good, but i guess it's wasted money if it don't work) are both CMC discs, but i really have had few problems with them until i changed drives.


this drive might not like my cheap media, but it's an awesome burner.

also, i've been poking around this forum a little more, am i to understand that this drive adapts itself to poor or unrecognized media, and the more you burn, the better it's burn strategy gets? if that's the case then i'm very impressed, i've always loved lite-on, but this is a jam packed drive

i dunno, someone someplace mentioned "learning" f/w i think now that maybe he was referring to the use of omnipatcher or some-such... i like this drive, but i notice when people refer to KProbe test results they always mention PI/PO results. then how come i'm looking at PI/PIF results, and how do these relate? i'm not getting this at all -- the posted reults with a spike of 200PIF or so, that disc wouldn't even read past that point in my tdk drive, where as i just burned one that peaks @ 120PIF or so, reads fine.....
anywho, any help is appreciated as usual, just trying to educate myself a bit...
