52246S slow read speed with VCD & (S)VCD

My 52246S refuses to read any VCD or (S)VCD faster than about 32x CAV, i like to scan all my cd media back at 52x with K'sprobe and CDSpeed etc, my 851s will read it back at its full 40x CAV but thats not good enough because its CD error scanning is terrible, ive got a feeling this is a widespread thing, so if anyone knows any fixes i'd love to hear them thanks!

And yes ive tried forcing read speed with DriveSpeed!, this is also not a media issue.

Re: 52246S slow read speed with VCD & (S)VCD

That seems to be normal. Most LiteOn drives have limited VCD and SVCD playback to 32x. I know that this is the case with my LTR 48246S.

Maybe the CodeGuys can patch a firmware to overcome this?

VCD and SVCD formats use no error correction when storing the data, that is why a 800 MB mpg VCD file fits on a 700 MB data disk. Increasing the read speed will increase the number of read errors which will cause image error blocks when replaying all further video copies. I do not assume that you want bad copies.

I know that. But audio is also stored without the extra ECC layer that data CD's have (it's even more difficult to extract) and there is no built-in speed limit on those. It's sort of inconsistent. Personally, I'd also like to have the option to scan/read VCD's as fast as data or audio disks.

(my emphasis) Not necessarily- C1 and C2 level error correction still applies, and you always have the option of dropping to a lower speed for copying.
