LiteOn / PLDS/ Sony Burner Discuss, 451S Tray Mech Hitches at CD and DVD Burners forum; My new 451S tray mechanism seems to have a problem. I originally thought that it was normal, but then I noticed that it may actually be a hitch. At the halfway point from ejection, the tray shoots out and then slows down. It now doesn't look normal. Does anyone

451S Tray Mech Hitches

My new 451S tray mechanism seems to have a problem. I originally thought that it was normal, but then I noticed that it may actually be a hitch.

At the halfway point from ejection, the tray shoots out and then slows down. It now doesn't look normal.

Does anyone else's tray mechanism do this? Should the tray be ejecting/inserting at a constant velocity?

I hope that my description is clear.

I posed this question long ago when I first got my Liteon DVDROM drive (163). Ejecting slowed down at the 3/4 mark (approx). I was told that this behaviour was normal. As for my 451S, it ejects much faster than my 163 but does appear to slow down toward the end. It's hard to judge because the eject speed is so fast, but my guess is that it slows down slightly at about the half way mark. Actually, I consider the eject speed to be somewhat irregular. Somtimes it seems to slow down and then speed up again. Probably just my imagination.

Actually, that's what I meant when I said that it "doesn't look normal." It seems a bit irregular.

Hopefully, other LiteOn users can comment.

It's the same on all LiteOn drives. So it is normal.

Lite-On tradition
Supposedly keeps the gears in a better condition by not bringing them to a sudden stop.

Thank you, everyone.

Would this be a suitable addition to the FAQ-sticky?
