Plextor Burner Discuss, Plextor 1.03 at CD and DVD Burners forum; I am surprised it has not been posted and answered but I was hoping someone would post the results of using this new firmware, 1.03 for the Plextor 24x. Does it do any damage, like make reading subchannel data impossible or diasable any features and can we flash back

Plextor 1.03

I am surprised it has not been posted and answered but I was hoping someone would post the results of using this new firmware, 1.03 for the Plextor 24x. Does it do any damage, like make reading subchannel data impossible or diasable any features and can we flash back to 1.02 if it doesn't work out?

I guess I will bite the bullet and give it a try tomorrow when I get home from work and post my results if no one tries it before and let's us know how it went.

Couldn't sleep so I flashed the 1.03 firmware for the Plextor 24x. Was able to copy SD2-Max Payne in 3:37 read and 3:57 write with CloneCD and with Blindwrite Suite, 2:46 read and 4:08 burn.

This may be a very slight improvement. Other that that can't see much at this point that is improved and I don't have any copy protected audio to try it on.

I read a post somewhere that we can, but I am not sure that I want to screw around and try going back to 1.02 when 1.03 seems to be working okay. I'll leave that to some other hardy soul.

RE: Flash Back

I flashed my firmware to 1.03 for testing purposes an back to 1.02 and it worked great. I still could copy SD2 CD's without problems with both versions!

How about the other protections like SD1, Securom, Data Catus Shield, PSXlib crypt, and laserlok?

I only know that my Plextor 24x with firmware 1.03 can read SD1 as welll as SD2 as I don't have games or songs with these other protections. I'd love to see if it can copy a Data Cactus Shield ptotected disk and would like to get a disk with that protection. Can you tell me a disk that has it and maybe what country it is available in?

Download Easy Audio lock from www.cdr-masters.de
Read any audio CD with CloneCD, then open EAL find the image, 'modify it' with Easy Audio Lock option enabled, then burn in CloneCD ignore the TOC thing that pops up and burn - u then have a CD protected with Cactus Data Shield 100!
Ive tried to copy that CD in CloneCD 3.3.2.1 with my Plex 24X f/w V1.02, 1.03 and guess what, they both worked!

And yes KenL you asked this @ CDRINFO.COM forum and I said yes you can downgrade your f/w. On that forum my user name is Clint.
Still copys Key2Audio fine!
Best firmware so far!!!

Thanks, Plexy I will make a Cactus Shield Protected disk from an audio one as you suggested and then see if my system can copy it.

Thanx for the info Plexy

The new 1.03 firmware sounds very encouraging indeed. I'll upgrade to it and give it a try later when I get around to it.

Thanx

To Big-Dady

The newest Plexwriters 12/10/32a can't be downgraded below 1.05 (so 1.04 does not work) only Plexwriters 12/10/32A #TLA 0101 and lower are able to do this So check your #TLA

And this Topic goes about the Plexwriter 24/10/40A and not about Plexwriter 12/10/32A
