Verbatim +Rs and -Rs are on sale in BestBuy (until tonight only). I heard starting tomorrow Fuji will be on sale. If you like -Rs, pick Fuji Made in Japan, it's TYG02, good stuff.

I prefer +Rs for daily use, btw.

zevia, thats the media I'm using now(Verbatim DVD-R 50 pack $19.99 at BB).You say the Fuji's are good quality as well?I'll keep my eye out for those too!!Got about 40 of the Verbatims to burn first!!Also,I don't know which ones I like -/+,My stand alone seems to play them both.Do you recomend one or the other??I noticed that a +R comes bundled with this drive, and after burning two of those(returned drive)they seem to burn great! Thanks.

Re: My 716a does'nt seem to like Verbatim??!!

voodoo, the good quality is not the Fuji, but the TY (Taiyo Yuden) which is in the recommended list. Rule of thumb, Plextor recommends only 4 media: TY, MCC (Verbatim), Maxell and Ricoh.

TY makes the media under different brands (Fuji, TDK, Sony etc). To get Fuji TY (as well as TDK and Sony +R), you need to look for "Made in Japan" on the spindle. The Fuji 8x +R Made in Japan is YUDEN000T02 (support up to 16x on 716A) and the Fuji 8x -R is TYG02 (up to 16x on 716A). I stock up TYs because it's an excellent media, and cheaper compare to Verbatims.

I like +R better because most drives can burn +Rs faster than -Rs, one of the reason is shorter lead-in/out time. Also you can bitset DVD+R to DVD-ROM, increases compatibility for standalone players.

So I'm better off to look for the "Made in Japan" on the spindle.I WILL do that next time I buy more media!!Thanks for the info.

You left out TDK. I know TDK DVD-R is on the recommended list; not sure about +R.

You're right Two Degrees, the TDK -Rs (MID: TTG01 4x/TTG02 8x) are in the recommended list.

Re: My 716a does'nt seem to like Verbatim??!!

I just ordered 2 fuji 8x 50 DVD+R spindles from Bestbuy.com for $19.99. I hope they are good quality and burn fast. Anyone ever order them from bestbuy.com? I hope they are made in Japan.

Ahh... there is 50/50 chance you can get made in Taiwan. Why not stop by your local bestbuy if it's not so far?

Re: My 716a does'nt seem to like Verbatim??!!

I would love to but my "local" bestbuy is an hours drive away. Its just more convenient to order them online. Why cant they build a Bestbuy in my City?

Re: My 716a does'nt seem to like Verbatim??!!

sorry you got a bunk pack of discs...seems like the inner most part of the discs are real bad.

darksaturn99, i have purchased through bestbuy.com but never had it delivered...just went for in-store pickup where i could confirm place of manufacturing. decent experience ordering online though.
