possible to recover Toshiba SD-R1102?

I have flashed many devices in my day and have never had any problems in the past..but for the first time I had one fail while trying to flash my Toshiba SD-R1102 8x8x8x32 dvd/cd-rw drive. Now the drive has a solid orange/red light iluminated all of the time and is not even detected by the bios. I have seen other cd-rw drives that have recovery jumpers..does anyone know of the same type of feature on the Toshiba drives? Would it even be worth sending it off for a non-warranty repair by Toshiba.. drive only cost $49 anyway.. I hope someone has some good news. Thanks

Hello Paul.

I would have posted before but I had some registration problems on this forum. Yes. You can restore your drive.

There are two ways to do it. Check the post on my forum about it:

Back with my original nickname...

It worked?!? Whoohoo! Wich method did you use and can you please write down the exact procedure what you did. I will post you results on my forum so that everyone else could see it.

Also post your complete information about the drive. Exact model, Original firmware. Wrong firmware that you used to flash and the firmware you used to recover your drive.

It's a lot to ask, but I wanna help other users that missflashed their drive and the only way to do it is by colletning reports from users that recovered their drive.

Thank YOU.

It is a Toshiba SD-R1102 8x8x32x8 DVD/CD-RW drive...it originally had firmware 1720 from the factory and I attempted to load firmware 1A18 and either there was a problem with the original region setting or maybe something else but after the flash had finished with an error code I rebooted only to find that the drive was no longer recognized, tray would not open, and the led was illuminated orange all the time. After searching the net without any hope of saving it I posted here and to my surprise there was a trick. I did like the instructions said and connected the drive after the computer was already booted into dos and ran the firmware update routine. It IDd the failed firmware version and proceded to flash the new firmware. Afterwards I rebooted the computer and all was well, bios detected it and I burned a cd after loading windows. Thanks again!

Sorry mate. Toshiba is my field. Don't know much about flashing other drives.

But if your drive uses MKT chipset you can force flash it with mktflash.exe. Try to find some more info on our forum.

No, my drive hasn't a mediatek chipset, that's the real problem. Anyway, thanks for your help
