| Re: Needs Firmware for GWA-4082N The region were not changed, but only set once to region 1. However, maybe someone should edit out the serial no?!? Not seen a fw for this drive, surely you have to ask HP/Compaq.

| Re: Needs Firmware for GWA-4082N > The region were not changed, but only set once to region 1. Brand new computer, and WinDVD wouldn't play a DVD (region 1 not set and asked if I wanted to change). Then tried with WMP. It played it, no questions asked. Then tried with WinDVD. That would now play it too. WMP silently set the region to 1 without asking me. With stealthware like that (and I travel & live a lot between regions 2 and 4, with 1 thrown in every now and again, so have quite a collection of DVDs from different regions), I really would like to be able to reset the firmware like I did with my old Presario 900 (set up a boot CD to do it). These blinkered copyright people completely ignore those of us who actually live and work in different regions. Am I supposed to buy a bunch of DVD drives for my computer and swap them as I play DVDs bought as I travel around? Or will they exchange the DVDs for me as I cross region boundaries? Brewmanz |

Than, why not "edit" where you can do it yourself first. | |

| Re: Needs Firmware for GWA-4082N Firmware is no driver. Drivers come with the OS.

| Re: Needs Firmware for GWA-4082N It is important to know the actual exact firmware on the drive and also the OEM of the Laptop. CROSSflashing slimtype drives is an extremely risky thing!!!

| Re: Needs Firmware for GWA-4082N Look out for "LG HL-DT-ST GSA-4082N (GWA/GMA/GCA)" section at: http://tdb.rpc1.org/ I too own Compaq nx6125 notebook which has same Slimdrive. My drive also had Firmware version CC15 as you have. I successfully crossflashed firmware with version CU01 and tried other versions on that page. CU01 gave my drive capability to write DVD-R DL but it removed the capability to read DVD-RAM . You may try those firmware and in case you need to revert back the original firmware just flash it with CC15 version. But be sure of what you are doing before flashing and it's on your own risk . Try to flash with auto versions and in case you want to remove region coding you may flash with RPC I version (Both AUTO Reset and RPC I versions are in zip package, which can be downloaded from the above mentioned website). Also have a look on http://www.cdfreaks.com/hardware/pro...GWA-4082N.html to know which firmware revisions work best for the drive. Same firmware updates applies to GMA-4082N, GSA-4082N and GWA-4082N versions as basically they belong to same family: http://club.cdfreaks.com/f91/what-di...models-165006/ ![]() Last edited by NeoAkS007; 25-06-2008 at 14:02. |
