Writing to DVD-RW from Windows Explorer on NEC 2500

I'm not sure if this is a silly question but should the above be possible please?

On a previous CD-RW drive I was able to write data files direct to a CD-RW. I was expecting to be able to do the same thing on a DVD-RW with my new DVD writer.

The drive was OEM so I received no driver disc etc. Windows recognised it and installed it. Works fine in Nero 6 but when I try to write data to a DVD-RW from Explorer - after using Explorer to erase it it starts writing and then says it couldn't finish the operation as there was an error in the writing process. This also happens if I use Nero to erase the disc.

Does it think that it is trying to write to a CD? Is it a driver issue?

Any help would be much appreciated as I need to ensure that my drive is not faulty as soon as possible.

Thank you,

Steve

As far as i can see Windows doesn't support DVD-RW only CD-RW.

If that is the case then it can be made possible by using InCD. I've used it without problems with w2k - but some others seem to have had less success.

Re: Writing to DVD-RW from Windows Explorer on NEC 2500

Cheers guys,

I'll try installing InCD and see if that fixes it. Strange that Windows still doesn't support DVD-RWs natively but that explains why it keeps referring to the disc as a CD-RW rather than DVD-RW.

Thanks,

Steve

Microsoft seem to be reserving anything to do with DVDS for the next operating system Longhorn.Could be used as a good selling point. Why give us a free update when they can make us pay.
