having trouble with player will only play burn copies and not any orginal cds or program cds....player is a teac dw-224e...os is xp home toshiba laptop...burner is works fine and like I said it plays burn cd fine also...can anyone help on this troubling problem

Can it even find the CD, can you access the disc?

sorry for getting right back....no...it can't find the disk on the orginals but it can on the burn copies....the only thing that I done to it was put in a new hard drive and it was playing real good...then i day I try to put in a norton disk and it didnt find it...so then I try to put a audio cd that I had...I think it was the eagles...and again it didnt find it...so then I put in a copy of a audio cd that I made and no problems...it found it and played real well...I uninstall the cd rom and rebooted the computer...it found the drive with no problems but still can t find or play any cd that are not burned copies...thanks for any help that you or others give on this problem that I have...the laptop is only 6 months old...it is a toshiba satillite...running xp home in it...has 40 g hard drive..512 ram...teac dw rw cd player...computer and all the programs in it works fine...just that problem...thank you again

Having the exact same problem w/a Teac DW-224E on a Compaq Presario 900. Tried to reinstall Windows XP after reformatting hard disk and partitioning into 2 drives.

This makes no sense....why the hell would teac make a drive that can't open factory discs?

ive got the same problem w/ my toshiba satellite w/ this drive. does anyone have any solutions yet? i tried new drivers & to reload xp pro sp2. no help. i can't burn cds. i understand some of the dw-224e drives may have enhancements for toshiba, according to teac. found one site (laptopparts.com) wanted $429 just for drive. teac indicated $129. found on cnet shopper for $126 TOTAL. but if this is proprietary????
