Tip: "Hi!" "Help!" and no information at all does not work.

Hello there people,

I would like to give you a friendly reminder on how to ask for assistance in this forum:

The problem:

The words "Hi" and "Help" in addition with lots of exclamation marks in as a topic subject doesn't motivate a lot of people to help you in your quest for information.

The solution:

- Don't be shy. We have all been newbies once in our lifetime and it's nothing to be ashamed about.

- Search around for the answer. Most topics and forum parts' title names are pretty self-explaining. If you really cannot find the answer to your quest for information there, start a new thread in the appropriate forum

- Give us all details. If you have a problem with your motherboard, please specify the exact type of that particular motherboard. If you have a problem with your dvd writer; please specify the exact brand model, type number and firmware version you are using. We're not omnipotent.

Hear, hear.
This is the road I took when I first came here. I am yet to start a thread of my own as many have done so before where a search turned up the answer I was looking for. I also read in many of the forums and acquired knowledge that way. Another method overlooked is to think about the problem and try to find the/a solution yourself, surely the best way to learn.
(I am more of a hardware man myself, being able to diagnose faults to component level)
I am amazed and dismayed at some of the questions asked but find that some on here, who should know better, often berate or belittle newbie’s. I don't think that is helpful to the reputation of cdfreaks or the individual posters.
Having said that, this is the best forum I have seen or used.

Re: Tip: "Hi!" "Help!" and no information at all does not work.

Here here and completely agree.....

I've started a few threads,,,,,,,,,some I'm sure some found infantile, but truth is, sometimes search doesn't help if you can't articulate a reasonable question. But atleast try, and read, and learn a little before that 1st post.

There are some here that will flame a person for a question...legit or not, and that is not the spirit of cd-freaks. In fairness.....even at it's worst, flames on cd-freaks, in my experience, is nothing compared to other forums of similar endeavour.

Long Live CD-Freaks.........

With you all the way there. I only tend to look inside "Hi!" threads cause I'm bored.
