Newbie Forum Discuss, System slow down when CD is being accessed by CD Drive at International Chat: General Topics forum; When a CD is being accessed by my CD drive, running programs slow down, it's like accessing the drive takes most of my system resources. Most noticeable is my media player Winamp which plays the songs slower, about 1/2x. My system specs are: P4 2.4GHZ 512MB RAM

System slow down when CD is being accessed by CD Drive

When a CD is being accessed by my CD drive, running programs slow down, it's like accessing the drive takes most of my system resources. Most noticeable is my media player Winamp which plays the songs slower, about 1/2x.

My system specs are:
P4 2.4GHZ
512MB RAM
Windows XP SP2

Here are my Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller Settings:

primary ide channel:
device 0
device type: auto detection
transfer mode: dma if available
current transfer mode: ultra dma mode 5

not applicable

secondary ide channel
device 0

dma if available

dma if available
not applicable

This is because your Cd drive is in PIO MODE.
Please enable DMA mode for it.

Enable DMA with micrAp$0ft Enable DMA free at your will busTRACE => Upper/Lower Filters Util
