| SATA Burner Problems ok, i posted before but that post seems to have disappeared. here goes attempt #2. i just installed a new SATA dvd burner that reads cds and dvds. it burns cds just fine but it always errors out when it attempts to burn dvds. using Nero, i get a DMA-driver/CRC error and using ImgBurn i get a CRC error. i've read around on this board and others and tried several different things but nothing seems to work. any help you can give would be much appreciated. so, as of now: - RAID is and always has been disabled - the drive is set to master - i tried uninstalling the driver on the device itself as well as on the controllers other boards mention setting the transfer mode to DMA but i don't think that works for SATA burners. in any case, DMA is not an option. the only selections available are PIO and SATA 1/1.5. it is and always has been set to SATA 1/1.5. i'm afraid this will be some really obvious and silly answer like the new SATA drive is not compatible with the SATA 1.5 motherboard or something. (SATA is forward compatible right?) anyway here are the devices: Lite-On LH-20A1L (http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16827106072) MSI K8N Neo4-F nForce4 (http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813130491) here is the Nero error log: Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: File 'Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=4.71 (0002), size=45056 bytes, created 4/14/2006 5:04:38 PM ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 11/2/2004 12:54:32 PM NT-SPTI used Nero Version: 7.2.3.3 Internal Version: 7, 2, 3, 3 (Nero Express) Recorder: <LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1L> Version: BL05 - HA 1 TA 0 - 7.2.3.3 Adapter driver: <IDE> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : via Inquiry data (1) -> ATAPI, detected: ? | Re: SATA Burner Problems "DMA-driver error, CRC error" is normally a defective data cable. Maybe you could replace it to test. Also, try to move the sata burner to another sata port. Finally, the DL media used is sub-par. I would use Verbatim DL.

| Re: SATA Burner Problems ok, i tried the new cable, verbatim media and every SATA port. it still doesn't burn the image and still gives the same DMA/CRC errors. here is one weird thing though. i tried burning it with CloneDVD2 and it burned straight through to the end. it played for the most part except for the second layer which was pretty much unplayable. that was with the old media. i tried it again with the new verbatim media and i got a "bad media" error. i'm all out of ideas and suggestions. any thoughts? |

| Re: SATA Burner Problems Quote: unfortunately, it didn't make sense for me to keep a burner that would only work with one specific software package and not for all others. i eventually scrapped the SATA drive altogether and went back to IDE. i'm not sure if it was that specific drive i had or if it's a larger SATA incompatibility issue but i simply ran out of ideas and it just wasn't working. thanks for the suggestions though. | |
