Re: recording music cds

A really large CD maybe...don´t think they´re available now, so the answer is (if we´re talking over 700MB/80 min reg format) NO.

Re: recording music cds

If you're lucky you might be able to find some of the old 90 minute CDrs but it still won't solve your problem. Deanimator was right...NO.
Here's the technical explanation as to why:

Re: recording music cds

Welcome, Stormyme - You could make a "best of" selection if the total playing time of the 2 CD's exceeds 80 min. (std. CD-R size). Just rip all the songs to wav-files on your hard disk (with Nero Save Tracks, CDeX, etc.) and then burn a new "Audio CD" project with as many of them as will fit. If it's a matter of 1 or 2 min. extra needed to fit one last song, you can enable "overburning" in Nero. And if you have access to a Plextor Premium series drive, you could use the GigaRec feature to increase disc capacity. Remember that all these tricks (90 min. CD, overburning, GigaRec) can affect the compatibility of the CD for playback in different players.

Re: recording music cds

There are several methods that you can use. The first is to create 2 folders on your HDD. Then, copy each disc to one of them. Then burn you new disc from the folders. This would keep everything as originally recorded. This method works very well for both WAV/Audio and MP3. I am assuming that you only have one reader/burner. Keep in mind that you must know the total time as Cressida suggests. I use the free CD Ripper program to convert to MP3. Each burner program has advantages and features of its own, btw.

Re: recording music cds

This all assumes that the original poster wants to create MP3 disks which is fine if this is the case...but somehow that's not what I felt he/she meant...I think "Storyme" was talking about creating a CD audio disk. In which case, what Deanimator said is essentially correct. If "Storyme's" friend is content to reduce the number of tracks then Cressida's "best of" option is probably the best workaround suggestion.

Re: recording music cds

Couldn't they be recorded as a DATA format? That would allow you to greatly exceed the limited playing time. However, you would also be limited to what units the CD can be played on.

I have an entry level Denon DVD player (model 1710) that plays my audio CD's which were formatted as data. Unfortunately, that is the only unit I have that they will play on.

Re: recording music cds

Probably not...as per this link, which I provided before:
http://www.feurio.com/English/faq/fa...99mincdr.shtml
If you look at the info carefully you'll see that the bulk of Cd players will reject anything transferred onto a Cd longer than 80 minutes in length. It was a limitation placed on the Cd standard a long time ago (early 1980s) before Cd writers and DVDs were even a twinkle in their creator's eyes.

Re: recording music cds

I did look at the link but I was thinking that if the music was recorded as data (mp3, etc.) and played back on a DVD player capable of reading the file formats, then you could exceed the time limit restriction (I think).

Re: recording music cds

Then this would work, of course. But I still think that Storyme meant creating a standard Cda. We won't know until he/she re posts and further clarifies their query.
