| Quickie I hope : CD vs DVD iso ? Hi Gang, Is there any difference between a CD ISO file and a DVD one ? Assuming they are both data that is..... I always thought there was no difference - but now I'm not sure. I'm having some trouble burning an 1.8 gig ISO to DVD-RW with my Lite ON Combo. This is otherwise well-proven kit: ie it normally works without a hitch for data and media...but I have this one file that won't work, I've tried Alcohol 120%, img burn and more - but all give errors - seemingly before the writing process starts. I believe the ISO iteself is oK - because when I mount it as a virtual drive, I can reach all the necessary files - and run them. Just won't burn.....so is it because I'm trying to burn a CD iso to a DVD ? ![]() |

| Re: Quickie I hope : CD vs DVD iso ? The only difference is on file size. I think that your problem is the disc. Try to use a different RW disc, or a write once media.

| Re: Quickie I hope : CD vs DVD iso ? Too bad rewritable media have a short duration in time. After some write/erase/write cycles, they become unreliable. So even if until now that disc was working ok, it is possible that now it is at the end of its life cycle. Try to do a couple of FULL erases of that disc: often this recover a RW disc ![]()

![]() RW media have anyway lower reliability than write once discs. If you compare a scan of a RW disc with a write once media, the rewritable will show much more errors.

| Re: Quickie I hope : CD vs DVD iso ? Drage : I thought yes. But now I think no: I burned the currrent OS from ISO using a Live Linux CD - and haven't burned an ISO since....only audio. video and data. I've just being trying with another ISO file and have the same error message......hmmmm this is odd. I dont know that burning ISOs need something more special than ordinary data files ? |
