| Noob needing help. Extracting episodes for series dvds Hello forum members. I have spend the last 20 mins looking through threads for information that would be helpful and have found nothing. I decided to register and ask my question as I'm new to converting DVDs. I'm about to purchase a new IPod and want to put my Smallville episodes on it. I got the converter to Ipod, but right now the problem is pulling each individual video off of my DVDs. I used decryptor and pulled off the VTS files but the way it works is instead of the 4 VTS files being the 4 episodes on the disk, it is just a continuous stream of the 4 episodes and switches when one VTS is done. So like the first VTS will like a third through the second episode instead of right at the end of the first episode. I am looking for software to take off each episode so that i can convert it to play on my ipod. Any time taken to review my problem and help me out is appreciated greatly. Look forward to talking to you all more. Thanks a ton Jo |

| Re: Noob needing help. Extracting episodes for series dvds My first thought would be to download a copy of Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5, which can open a VIDEO_TS folder and allow you to multi-trim (selectively choose which clips to keep and get rid of) so you can separate the contents. I'm not sure how best to get it to iPod though. Perhaps DVD MovieFactory can do that too. I don't have a video iPod so I am not versed in that. Good luck. |

| Re: Noob needing help. Extracting episodes for series dvds Take a look at Dvd Shrink and this re-authoring tutorial http://www.dvdshrink.info/reauthor_basic.php Once you get the individual shows then you can convert them with whatever program you choose

| Re: Noob needing help. Extracting episodes for series dvds Thanks a TON sikoone. That is just what i wanted. I had DVD shrink to begin with and everything so you made it enormously easy. I think i can work off that and create the Ipod format. thanks again |

| Re: Noob needing help. Extracting episodes for series dvds Quote:
DVD Decrypter has several modes of operation. 'File mode' just gives you a picture of the actual file structure of the DVD, where you see the .IFO (information), .BUP (backup of information), and .VOB (video object) files. The latter appear labelled as 'VTS_1_01' etc. and as you noticed are segments of one large file containing all the episodes back-to-back. If you switch to 'IFO mode' in DVD Decrypter, then the program reads the information file which contains the start and end position of the real episodes), and will display these labelled as PGC (program chain). In this mode, when you rip, the whole episode will be extracted even though it might be contained across adjacent .VOB files.

| Re: Noob needing help. Extracting episodes for series dvds Have a look at Ulead VideoStudio 10 Plus - they advertise the production of iPod compatible stuff. The editing facilities are much better than Movie Factory that it is an authoring package and has only basic editing facilities. Sorry, just realized your prob was a bit dif. It seems your conert software put things together, so you may have to one at a time. |
