| Newbie with question about burning an AVI file to a DVD Hello: I'm new to this forum. I have an .AVI movie and would like to know if I can burn it to a DVD, so I can see it in my home DVD player. I currently use the Nero 7 Ultra Edition and have DVD-R blank discs. Thanks and any help is greatly appreciated, Roberto |

| Re: Newbie with question about burning an AVI file to a DVD This will depend if the home dvd player will play this format. Read your owners manual to see if it will.

| Re: Newbie with question about burning an AVI file to a DVD I was told that my DVD player plays these kind of DVD's (DVD-R), so I would like to know if I can use Nero and which program to use (within Nero 7 Ultra Edition) in order to burn the movie in DVD format. Thanks, Roberto |

| Re: Newbie with question about burning an AVI file to a DVD Yes nero 7 can do this I played with it during a trial and all worked well. I just don't remember how it's done it it. So as long as your player will play the - format you're good to go.

| Re: Newbie with question about burning an AVI file to a DVD Whilst the DVD player may play DVD-R physical format discs, we need to know if it will play MPEG4 (XviD/DivX) in an .avi container. I haven't used Nero 7 at all... will it transcode the MPEG4 to MPEG2 and burn the ouput as a DVD-Video standard disc?

.However, getting to know 'Nero 7' is one that I'll definitely leave for another day... . My burning ROM version 6.3.1.20 is pretty stable and the old Yamada DVX-6600 still plays MPEG2/4 just fine; so I am not considering transcoding stuff back up to MPEG2.Always good to hear what they're putting into Nero VE versions though.

| Re: Newbie with question about burning an AVI file to a DVD IT WORKED !!! Hi all: Just to let you know that I created my first DVD using Nero Vision and watched it in my Sony home DVD player with incredible sound and video quality. It's pretty simple, you can put several movies in the same disc as long as it doesn't get full in any format (AVI,MOV,MPEG, etc.). You can even create your own menu with your own texts. Viva Nero 7 !!!! |

| Re: Newbie with question about burning an AVI file to a DVD Nero last time i checked though didnt include the feature of simultaneously inserting subtitles into the final vob files. So if you have any avi files and the corresponding srt files, a good solution is also ConvertXtoDVD which will do all simultaneously.

| Re: Newbie with question about burning an AVI file to a DVD Just a reminder for everyone - talking about warez is against forum rules. As far as inserting subtitles with convertXtoDVD is concerned, you just have to have the subtitles file in the same folder with the avi and the same name, ie "my daughters wedding.avi" and "my daughters wedding.srt" and convertXtoDVD will select and insert the subs automatically.

I am also new to burning dvd's for tv and I came across a what seems to be a pretty good program. Its called "convertxtodvd" http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/ You can try it before you buy it.... and I was quite impressed with what it had to offer. It does everyting in one process... converts and burns all in one program... check it out. ![]() | |

| Re: Newbie with question about burning an AVI file to a DVD I'm a mac user (OS 10.4) with a load of (LEGAL) avi and mov files that I would like to burn to DVD, in order to get them off my computer. ![]() Yes, the mac is quite capable of burning, no issues there. ![]() The issue is in what software to use? ![]() Except for one large file, they are all small enough to put multiple files on one DVD. Please, I don't have an IV drip connected to the computer, so if your info is too tech I will get all glassy-eyed and my vision will start fading... please, be gentle and use words I can understand![]() "The Gods have spoken...you will use the mac!" | Re: Newbie with question about burning an AVI file to a DVD Just use your normal Mac burning application, but burn them as data on the DVD to avoid transcoding and conversion to DVD-Video format. |

| Re: Newbie with question about burning an AVI file to a DVD I was under the impression that if I made dada dvd's I would not be able to "play" the files anywhere except on the computer that made the disk? ![]() My mission is two-fold: get the files out of my hard-drive, and be able to introduce my young nephews to these really cool old cartoons. (some of the original animation, when everyone was made of rubber and black & white paint...) I travel a lot and the files sit at home without me...I'd like to take them on the road as well. I do not own an iPod or other portable media player (other than a dvd player) , so that option isn't for me. By the way, these files are DRM free files, yet they are legal files. I DO have the right to burn these, if I so choose, and can figure out how... ![]() "The Gods have spoken...you will use the mac!" Unknown blogger 2008 |

| Re: Newbie with question about burning an AVI file to a DVD As long as you finalise the DVD disc after burning the data, it should play on any computer with a DVD-ROM or rewriting drive. How are you planning to play them back away from home? |

| Re: Newbie with question about burning an AVI file to a DVD Depends on the players capabilities, and as imkidd57 has stated, players will only accept finalized cd/DVD. Maybe check videohelp.com for more info about the portable.
