Yes Cressida, rare, but when I had a hobby of TV repair, I ran across it once, (different type of cable, same problem),and somehow got a flashback and tried another cable, and bingo, again thanks for the great responses.

Re: New rig

I'm not with you any more.

When you can get ONE CD/DVD drive, processor,RAM,and vid card in it stop. Make sure everything is plugged in and then format (and partition if wanted) your HDD. Then load your OS. Then mobo drivers. Then if all is good install the rest of your drives one at a time and make sure the OS sees them each time and DMA is correct.

Bob, I was under the impression the video card was built in, also what is the process for formating a harddrive, never had to do that before.

T.I.A.
It could be built in the mobo. If you have one to put in it go ahead and install it.

Everything you need to format/partition is on your Windoze disc. Or you can use the software that came with your new HDD.

OK, they didn't send you a Biostar K8M800 Micro, but a TForce TF7025-M2 board. Here's a link to the Biostar page, which you can bookmark: http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en-us/....php?S_ID=183# . It has integrated graphics, you can hook up your monitor to the blue VGA connector.

So your CPU fan is running now when you press the power button?

Cressida the connections you have circled, what connects to them, I have the hard drive hooked into what I assume is for power and the other to the Sata1 connection you have circled. I have two burners hooked up, I think Bob wants me to start off with one, which I will try, when you checked out that barebones package was a video card built in, I thought there was.

That should be alright. After you power up, repeatedly hit the "Delete" key, this should get you in the BIOS setup, where you can set the Boot Sequence to boot from the CD/DVD-drive for installing Windows (check the manual).

I'll leave you with Bob now, as it's bed-time here .

Re: New rig

Have you gone into the BIOS and set it to boot from your CD/DVD Drive?

Put your windoze disc in it and boot up after you change the BIOS. Let it go and boot up and load the drivers etc..... and then follow the instructions to format to NTFS and load windoze.

Just for the heck of it I went on the Tiger Direct page, got the barebones I bought, got costumer reviews and most said they had only to hook-up the hard drive/Dvd drive and install the OS, I must be missing a step. Not unusual for me.

You cannot get into the BIOS? Don't hold down on the delete key just keep taping on it.

hmmmm and yes i bet you have everything plugged in for your vid on the mobo. Your using on board vid. This is odd.

Do you hear one beep when it's time to tap on delete key?

Re: New rig

Hi guys! I bet you the power cable's bad on the monitor, durkinjt . No, but really, you should see something happening there even before you get to the BIOS. We must be missing something obvious in the setup. I hope nothing broke with that bad cable either.

Is the monitor connected to the blue (analog) VGA port? There's also a white (digital) port you can use, if your monitor has a digital DVI input (uses a different cable as well).

Maybe you can try a "Clear CMOS" to reset the BIOS (it's described in the mobo manual, page 21). Can't hurt, even if it's not what we're looking for.

Re: New rig

Hi durkinjt,

Good to hear the monitor's working now. You don't need to do much in the BIOS, just check for correct date and time settings (under "Standard CMOS Features") and set boot priority to make the PC boot from the optical drive you want to install Windows from (under "Advanced BIOS Features" -> "Boot Seq & Floppy Setup" -> "CD-ROM Boot Priority"). Insert your Windows CD (for XP) or DVD (for Vista), reboot and follow the setup prompts to install the OS.
