Need help with downloaded movies

Some of the movies that I try to burn are too large for the dvd disks that I am using (4.7) Message suggests using larger disc. These movies do not have any previews at all so I don't understand how they can be too large! Is there a way that you can shrink these down loads or am I downloading the wrong file type (avi)
I am using a benq burner and Nero Smart Start software.

Re: Need help with downloaded movies

I would probably make an image file (an .iso or .bin) and then use DVDShrink to make it small enough to burn it on normal dvd disk. I guess that should work but I don't know that software (the one you use), but I quite sure it can make somekind of image file!

The problem with converting avis to dvd if the movie is over 2 hrs, you are going to get a warning that the movie won't fit on a regular dvd (which it probably won't after conversion). The easiest way to convert your avis to dvd is download vso divxtodvd and it should convert your movie to a VIDEO_TS folder. If after conversion the folder is smaller than 4.35 gig, you should be able to use Nero to burn the dvd. If not i would use nero recode (if its included with your version of Nero) or use Dvd Shrink to compress the movie. I'd use Recode because i think the compression is slightly better. The burner and software you're using is fine, but if you're using the wizard, i'd try burning without it. It looks more complicated but you'll learn more.

Did you shrink it to Nero Digital or to DVD? If it was Nero Digital you need to use something like NeroVision Express to make it fit on a DVD and be able to play in a DVD player.

Re: Need help with downloaded movies

When You say 'vso' file do you mean 'iso' or you used vsodivxtodvd? if you haven't used divxtodvd, trust me, use it. You will be amazed at how easy it is to convert your movies. To find all of the functions of Nero, what i do is open the program using the 'Start Smart' Menu. It will show you all of the features of Nero How many there are depends on which version you have. If it was preinstalled, you wont have as many functions as a full enterprise edition. The file on your HD, is it one file with a .mp4 extension? If so its the wrong type of file to play in a dvd player. Thats why you should use divxtodvd. It will create the necessary VIDEO_TS folder. In order the movie to play in dvd player, there must be a VIDEO_TS folder and a empty AUDIO_TS folder on the dvd. After you have converted with divxtodvd, you can manually create the AUDIO_TS folder or have nero do it for you.
