Matshita UJ 820s Problem

very much a newbie but I have just installed a Matshita UJ 8205 DVD drive. This is installed in a Toshiba M35 - S359, The problem I am having is with trying to burn a DVD or information to a DVD, If I put a blank CD in the drive and click on properties it tells me there is 700mb avail etc, If I put a dvd in the drive it doesnt even recognise that there is anything in there. WIll burn CDS no problems

Am I doing something stupid??????

Thanks, appreciate all help, Im very new at this

Welcome to the Forums.

Please specify what kind of DVDs your Matsushita would not read: originals, backups, +R/RW or -R/RW.

Re: Matshita UJ 820s Problem

Hi Alex, Thanks for the reply. I have tried all sorts of media. All CDS work but no DVDs will. Have tries DVD + - R RW etc.

It will find and read anything already done but wont find a blank DVD at all.

The drive is supposed to take DVD + RW correct?

Re: Matshita UJ 820s Problem

I have a Matshita (not Matsushita) UJ-820S DVD burner in my notebook (Toshiba M30X). It is most definitely supposed to read and write DVD+RW.
Mine doesn't have the problem you describe, but the unit is really crappy, and is generally hated by much of the notebook crowd. It's appallingly slow, has problems reading with certain brands of media and burners, and it doesn't like some ways of burning.
I will SO not be surprised if yours turns out to be faulty.
