Making an LG region free...

At the end of last year (2007), I purchased a new HP Compaq desktop, which naturally enough came with a DVD writer - the HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H60L (R90A).

As usual with DVD drives, this one allows one to change the region setting a handful of times and then becomes permanent (allegedly).

With my old desktop, the drive was a really common generic model and I had no trouble finding a firmware patch that allowed the settings to be changed in perpetuity.

This does not appear to be the case with the GSA-H60L. There's nothing on the LG site and most of the normal patch resources don't appear to have grappled with this one yet.

Has anybody got any suggestions about a version of firmware from any other LG drive that might do the trick.

Or, as I work in development, does anybody know how to get hold of the specifications for writing the firmware myself.

Re: Making an LG region free...

Hi and Welcome!

it seems as if you could apply an RPC2 auto-reset patch to your drive:

Of course, you need the firmware at first. Only source is HP, since this is a plain OEM drive with no support from LG at all.

Edit Also found this feature of MCSE:

added HL-DT-STDVD-RAM GSA-H60@H62 crossflash option
