losing isp address

Over the past few days i have not been able to connect to my broadband. I had a computer tech check it out and he says that windows vista has lost my isp address. He opened a few boxes on the screen and typed in my isp address and broadband worked fine. After Norton downloads the computer rebooted and broadband was lost again. Try as I might i cannot find the box where he typed in the address. Can anyone halp? Could this be a driver problem?

Re: losing isp address

You need to call your ISP & get tech support for this.
Without providing any details, we can't really provide any relevant help.

Are you sure he wasn't referring to your IP address?

If it's your IP address, you can access your network settings through the control panel.

Generally, you will have an ethernet router/modem which will provide your computer with an IP address via DHCP. Those terms probably won't mean anything to you, but it will help anyone else offering help later.

Click Start-> Settings->Control Panel.
-> Network & Internet Settings
->Network Connections

You should have a "Local Area Connection"
Right click on "Local Area Connection" and select "Properties"
A new window will pop up LOCAL AREA CONNECTION PROPERTIES.
Select "internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" & press the propertes button.
Click "Obtain an IP address Automatically"
Further down click "Obtain DND server address automatically"
OK.
Back at the LOCAL AREA CONNECTION PROPERTIES screen
Tick on "Show icon in notification area when connected".
OK.

On your start bar on the far right (the system tray) you will have two little computer screens ...
if it has a red cross, it's not working.
Double (left) click on it, then click on the "SUPPORT" tab.
Click "Repair".

If your modem/router is set up correctly, you should be good to go.
