Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Autumn Greetings from Los Angeles... Thanksgiving is almost here... Nevertheless, THANKS to everyone associated with this forum and my hats off to the unsung heros/heroines who graciously help and administer to sustain this board. It has taken me a while as a lurker and finally registered today. Having been a member of other forums and also operate one... I am grateful to see this place continue to grow and mature!

Advance Thanksgiving and warm holiday wishes to all here.

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hi all.
Since computers are taking over the world, i thought i should learn to hold them close. I like to understand just whats going on with these boxes of mystery. I like to work on cars, (when not mine). I like to build R/C Aircraft, u-control aircraft. I am learning computers a little at a time, might say taking a crash course. I have picked up some good info already. Thanks. (Fade to blue screen)

Hi
I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm so new I don't even know what I need to know to know what I'm not doing.
All I know is Bewitched and madagascar won't copy. Bewitched has some kind of error on the dvd. If you watch the movie it actually skips and madagascar.... who knows. I'm hoping this is the answer.

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

I'm 37 year old Jason.

I live in a caribbean country called St.Kitts (..no it's not a place found in Jamaica!! ).
I found this site by accident and I'm beginning to really like it. I've been working with computers for about 17 years. I'm the Chief Technical Engineer (..just a fancy name for IT Administrator ) for local company.

I have extensive experience in building websites, web servers, email servers, dns servers.... the whole 9 yards!!

I'm hoping that we'll be able to share information and try to help each other in time of need.

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

First off you need to know if you have a composite video in on your video card. If not, like me you'll have to buy a vido adapter like The Dazzle 90 from Pinnacle. It come with all the software you will need to get going. It only works however with USB 2.0 ports. Make certain you have AT LEAST 512 meg of ram ( more is better ). and a 2.4 ghz processor. Anything less will make your dvd out of sync with the audio. At least this is what I have discovered the hard way. The machine is doing a lot of work at once and processing power is the name of the game. The manual is in thecontent cd. VCR hook up is straight forward once you have the adapter. The software will do all the work for you but read up on DVD burning parameters. The manual is quite extensive, but thorough. I'm still learning this application. It's not cut and dried. Good luck .Let me know how you make out, I'm sure I could use your discoveries myself

good luck

Steve

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hello All,
My name is Connie and I came across this forum by chance while searching for firmware for my new and 1st DVD burner drive. Lurked for a couple of hours and decided to join. I am very passionate over movies and music. Have had much success with collecting music from shared files but no luck with movies. A coworker told me he joined an internet DVD rental service and makes copies of the rentals.
I am hoping to gain knowledge, useful assistance and/or tools from fellow members in making great use of my new toy(DVD burner) transferring VHS to DVD, and just making copies of other DVDs.

Bye for now...

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hello, everyone!

My name is Chris (short for Christopher) Souter. I'm a 57-year-old oldie/newbie. I'm a semi-retired musician and piano teacher. I live in Sydney, Australia.

I have been interested in computers for about 12 years now. My first computer was a DX2-66 with 16MB RAM and a 406MB HDD! It was supposed to be the fastest computer ever made. How far things have progressed since then!

My other interests are music (mainly classical), photography and cars.

I came across this forum from a link on the SlySoft web site. My level of CD-DVD knowledge is VERY LOW, and I am here to learn.

So, please treat me gently if I ask any stupid questions. I always try to do some research on my own first, before asking, but sometimes I don't really know where to look.

Anyway, it's great to meet you all, and I hope to find the time to read through all the rest of these 80+ pages of introductions!

Best regards to all, and thanks for taking the time to read my drivel.
Bye for now...

Chris Souter

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hi,
I'm Bill, 54yo, and in Stilwell, KS, just outside of KC. I wish to take all the analog video I have of my 2 sons (who are now 21 and 22) from the age of 1 week, compile it, edit what I want, and make individual DVDs or whatever for my wife and I and the boys. I plan to dedicate a spare computer to the task. The movies are VHS and Hi8. I have a VCRs for both for playing. The computer processor will be Pentium 1.9 with a gig of Sdram. I guess I am looking for recommendations for a video capture card and Software. I plan to place the edited video on an external hard drive and use Nero and the dvd burner on my main computer. I am open to all suggestions. I would appreciate guidance to where best to look in the cd freaks club forum.
Thanks,
Bill (40wnks)

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hi!

I must be one of the oldest new members - 63 next month. Live in the UK, near Canterbury. Reasonably competent with software, but avoid like the plague any tips that involve taking the side off. Not a very fast computer, though plenty of storage space - nearly 2TB (yes, TB) with various HDDs, including three external caddies. I got here by chance, after following a Google search for a problem that was getting on my nerves. Senior Member Nemesys had posted a reply that solved it immediately, which made me a a convert. Thanks for that!

Just wanted to say hi and I think this site is the best! I really appreciate the hours of not having to wrestle problems alone. I am a film producer and would one day love for people to want to make back up copies of my movies in progress,it to me is the highest form of flattery because I know that people went to the theatre in the first place and still thought it was worth keeping!
