Hi, I am a 73 yr old female, nuts about computers and spend far to much time on them. I am originally from Manchester, England but have lived in
Toronto, Canada for 48 years. Love music, both classical, particularly opera, and jazz. Voracious reader though not as much since I got hooked on computers approx 15 years ago. Started out with a pc with no! hard drive, needed to keep swapping 5 1/4 diskettes. Next pc had a huge 40mb hard drive and 8 mb ram. Not on the internet though (obviously) until '96. Have been burning cds for years and playing dvds as soon as they became available. Have just got my first DVD burner and that is the reason for this initial visit to this forum. I am a newbie in this area.

I'm 49 years old and have a wife and two daughters. I don't have any education about computers or electronics but that doesn't stop me from trying stuff and sometimes screwing it up, which is what brought me to this group. I have edited some home video and put it on dvd's. I went to upgrade to a better dvd drive and everything's a mess. Hopefully I'll get some help from the knowledgeable people here.

Nowadays you can find more than you ever expected, not only in sound quality, but in the amount of music available. Since the old records produced so much noise and scratch, and cassettes were also subject to deterioration and a lot of hisssss. Today, almost nobody thinks about them, adn therefore take for granted what we have today, so it;s a good thing to be grateful for it.

I just want to learn everything I can about CD burning anc converting from one format to another.

My name is Scott, I live in Austin, Texas. I am a 52 year old Sales Engineer/IT Consultant. My claim to fame in life is that I used to play in the band "Liberation" with Stevie Ray Vaughan back in the early 70's ... we went to high school together at Kimball HS in Oak Cliff, a suburb of Dallas. I was the original guitar player until we auditioned a 15 year old Stevie for bass, then heard him play my guitar. Needless to say, I switched with him pretty quickly!
I just bought my first DVD recorder, a Plextor PX-712A. As much as I know about computers and networking ... (I'm also an MCSE) ... I know absolutely nothing about video recording and making DVDs, so here I am. Looks like THE place to learn!! I'm getting all the "how to" guides from the forum so I won't post unnecessarily and bug all you "hot rods" ... glad to be aboard. (Yes, I was also in the Navy too ... a "bubblehead" ... that's submariner to all you landlubbers.)
