Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hi -I am am very new to this. I have had some experience with copying home videos but now I am trying to copy VHS tapes which I had bought many year ago., I had trouble playing the DV tapes I copied using the sony on my old DVD players -I could play them on my computer and on the new Sony player I got so I assume it was a problem with the old DVD players not being able to read the formatting.

I am a retired senior citizen and I am finding this an interesting way to spend my time and learn

I joined because I was interested in finding out information on how to copy my commerical vhs tapes to DVD for my own use. I have alot of tapes I have bought over the years and they are detiorating and it is getting harder to find VHS players, I have a Sony VRD-MC-5 DVD recorder which works fine with my camcorder. However when i try to copy commericial tapes from my Sony SLV D380 DVD player/cassettee recorder-I cannot copy them which I assume is ro to copy protection, I also have comcast cable and have some older Panasonic VHS recorders attached-They play videos fine on my TV but I cannot record anything- I have two sets and two diferent reforders and I get the sameproblem I cannot record anything-not just the movie channels. I have a DVR conected to one and a cable box to the other TV. Is theer anything I can get to (1) copy my movies from VHS to DVD and secondiy to record a show if I want from my tv.

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hello,
This is my first time to this forum,so please bear with me !
I have for my business a Fujitsu Siemens P300 Scenic computer. ( I think it's about 5 or 6 years old now )
I know it's not at the leading edge of systems, but it does the job for me.
Here is my question >> it has only has a cd/dvd drive, and I would like to know if I can upgrade to a combo drive ?
I can play dvd's and cd's,rip music to my media player, but am not able to erase data etc from RW discs !
My system has a 40gb hard drive, but the model with 80 gb has a combo drive so I am told ?
Can anyone guide me in the right direction on this issue ?
Thanks

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hi, I'm Steve, a former Systems Engineer, current I/T Support Supervisor, gamer, system builer, etc...

I've built, upgraded or configured everything from gaming systems to racks of blade servers. Done alot of AD and Exchange Migrations for organizations you've heard of...and I am humbling myself before you.

I just became interested in "making my one archival copy of DVD's I have purchased!" I have found this site enormously helpful already. I just downloaded DVD Decrypter and IMG Burn due to recommendations from the good people here at CD Freaks. I really like the software.

Well, my current DVD Burner just crossed the River Styx. I put pennies on it's eyes for the boatman. I need a new one, and price IS an object. In my case speed is less important than coasterless functionality. Don't get me wrong, fast is nice, but I HATE throwing away relatively expensive media because a burner hiccups!

You folks here really know your stuff. I'd like some recommendations for good inexpensive burners that'll reliably burn DL disks from the images DVD Decrypter creates, while not being picky about media.

I KNOW you've probably answered this a quadrillion times so feel free to post a link. I know I'm gonna get flamed, but please, at least be funny.

Hi, my name's Lauren, 25 yrs old and from Queensland, Australia. I know a fair amount about computers (I could learn a lot more) and right now a lil frustrated with trying to understand burning DVDs.

Uhm, I love cats =D I have three, and they're my babies. For some reason they don't understand burning DVDs either and really can't help with my problem. Silly kitties XD

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hi maxim20852, your problem might be due to copy-protection in the form of Macrovision. Such questions have been asked a lot and you can find previous threads using our Search feature (try using search-words such as "macrovision", "vcr", "vhs"). Welcome to CDFreaks!

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hi Steve (sbandit1200), try looking in our CD and DVD Burners forum - many such questions and recommendations are posted there. I'd suggest a Pioneer DVR-115D or Optiarc AD-7200A/7203A drive. Welcome to CDFreaks!

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hi Lauren (Zemphyra), welcome to CDFreaks!

We have plenty of cat-lovers here on CDFreaks; some of them have formed a social group for Cat Lovers and we have some cat-related threads in our Living Room.

We even have some self-proclaimed kitties and cats on the forum who have mastered the fine art of DVD burning! Maybe your kitties can learn from them?
