Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Greetings:
I'm new here, so bear with me.
I'm an old fart who lives in Casper Wyoming, USA with my wife. In a former life I was a trained musician (composition and theory), taught at university level, etc. I have been through several different carreers since, but have continued my interest in music one way or another.
My primary area of interest now is in high quality audio recordings, and high-def video, specifically classical, and more specifically opera on DVD's.
We recently acquired a Blueray disc of 'Magic Flute', and it is spectacular in every respect. The question buried beneath all this verbage is this: With all the capacity inherent in the BD format, is it not likely that recordings of music (sans video) will be offered on BD? With my limited understanding, it seems that it would be possible to offer all the Beethoven symphonies, for example, on one or two BD's in high quality Dolby true hd or DTS HD master audio. Does anyone have any thoughts or insite into this?
Thanks in advance, and my apologies if this is territory which has already been covered elsewhere.

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

New on forum, but can right away say things not on the kidding side,
but on real business !
Good luck to rilet01 for his music project.I really appreciate seeing from as far as North-africa people dedicated to doing what they've best learnt, music for instance. But that's not my cup of tea.Mine fills with economics,History and "political awareness ".
I'll try my best to post what could be useful or just drop an eye on what others have to offer-all this within the rules that should govern
over this wonderful tool ,the web.
Good luck to all .

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hi, Let Me Introduce Myself.
I'm Ferris from Aruba and I'm also a computer freak or that's what my friends and colleagues say.

My hobby is what my job used to be. I' used to be a Novell and MicroSoft Network administrator and also repair and install pc's for those that cannot afford to pay what pc repair shops charge. I'm somewhat of a good Samaritan and when I get stuck, this is where I look for my answers. I use second hand parts wherever and whenever I can get them. I repair pc's that repair shops refuse.

I prefer to be seen as a handyman because I not only repair pc's, but also do odd jobs and even carpentry, do some stuff with electricity and even work on cars and electrical appliances etc.

I'm 52 and still going strong in other departments too. (LOL)
Want to know more, email me.

Btw, i'm a cop by profession.

This is why I came here. Hopefully someone can shed some light on the various CD/DVD Disc format types are, as well as why one format is better than the other.

I currently am running Nero 8 and I have an LG GSA-H55LI if that helps any. The discs I'm currently using are the Sony DVD+RW (DPW47L2) Sony DVD-R (DMR47L3) and the Sony DVD+R (DPR47L3) I want to learn how to maximize the use of all these discs. I find myself especially confused with the burn modes like ISO Levels, and all the technical stuff. Please help

Another newbie.

I just joined and am trying out the DVDFab trial download. Am pretty "d'uh" when it comes to computers and all the tech stuff. . . except Photoshop. I am okay on that.

I live in Tokyo, Japan.

I am trying DVDFab because I am thinking of buying a PSP and want to transfer/copy movies so I can watching them on it. I mainly like horror movies.

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

I thought I would take a sec to say hi to everyone. I've been on this forum many times but have not contributed yet. I am learning about encoding and this forum has been good for me to learn. I have a T-Mobile Shadow and try to get my movies onto the device. I liked DVD Fab for it but haven't found the best way to do it yet.

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hello to everyone,

It's dufficult for me to write in the English language, but I shall try.
So I am Theo van Stiphout and I'm living in Gemert near by Eindhoven.
Perhaps you know Eindhoven from the football-club PSV.
My interests are (not football): Top40-hitmusic from the late 50's till the late 90's and also I like DVD-movies with horror, action and adventure.

With friendly regards,

Theodorus

Hi Theodorus and welcome to CD Freaks.

Even though English is the preferred language for the forums, there is a Dutch section where you may converse in your mother tongue :

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hi, names Ken, sorry to get straight to business but have not figured out how to post any other way, been reading forums for a long time and never posted, been useing DVDFab for a long time also. With the latested version of DVDFab I can only burn to DVD+RW ,followed all of the instructions on the forum (clean install etc.) no luck. Vista Basic (not my choice) on my laptop. Wasted alot of Verbatim plastic, not sure what I'm doing wrong. I copy to main movie, only difference that I see is an extra screen that has Next at the bottom then goes to the start screen. Parden my grammer & spelling, in a hurry to burn, love DVDFab,turned many friends on to it. Could use all the help I can get.
Thank You
Ken

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hello All!

I am Terry from Maryland, USA. I am 58...and I have been teaching Technology, A+ for awhile. I hold an advanced degree in Acoustical Engineering.
I'm a Beta Tester for a few s/w companies including one for Internet Security.

I started duplicating DVDs back when DVDXCopy was first released...way back then shut down...that on-going programming became DVDNextCopy, and I have a copy of that s/w but only on my office PC.

I did not like the fact that DVDNextCopy keeps track of which PC's unique address...allowing only one functioning copy to be used ..and if you try to use it on another, they'll shut you down.

I bought DVDFab Platinum when they first started up and now have two versions of 4 and 5 that run great! The programmers are always tweaking the program and it always is getting better. Their customer service is #1!

Keep up the great work! As a teacher I have made duplicates of my own DVDs that the students typical destroy after a few months...now I can keep my original and use a duplicate in classes.

BTW, the best external DVD drives I have used are the LGs. I use the GSA E10L, the GSA E40L (a faster E10L) and my HP internal LG GSA E30L!

My classes also go through dozens of school purchased DVD drives...I now specify LGs...and no more problems!

Question:

May 31/2008***At home, I have found just today that DVDFab version 4 or 5 could not copy a Rambo III: Ultimate Edition...it had a cycling error during the initial read...non-stopping.

This is a new old 1988 copy, but in 1988 they tried to use this DVD as a hybrid for both PC and DVD players. This was a new non-patented technology for the Rambo Trilogy.

After testing all my drives and even different PCs, I went back to DVDNextCopy...the latest standard release. It had a problem with copying to a dual-layer disc, but made a perfect copy onto DVD5, a single disc.

I wrote to the technology folk at DVDFab about the error, and I am sure they'll get it resolved quickly.

CDfreaks is a great forum!

Best regards,

Terry
