Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hi
My name is John I live in Henderson, Nevada just down the street from Las Vegas. I wish I was as smart as all of you on this Forum. I'm 70 years old and I hope you guys and gals can teach an old dog new tricks. I have been trying to download movies to an Ipod. I first download to a file on the hard drive, and then try to download it to the Ipod. It says it has downloaded but when I try to access it, it's not there. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any info you can give me would sure be appreciated. This is my son's Ipod and I'm thinking about buying one also, but there are a few other brands out there and suggestions would help.

thanks

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Yo everyone. my name is Mike from New Jersey. I'm a professional chef by trade and own a "white tablecloth" restaurant. In order to retreat from working long hours and the somewhat stressful life of being a small business owner and family man, I turn to my hobbies which include computers, sports (golf, American football and NCAA basketball mostly), movies (SciFi and mysteries are my favorites) and music (with an emphasis on the blues).

I joined the forum about a week or so ago in order to further my knowledge of ripping and burning dvds. Even though I have about 500+ successful burns under my belt over the last few years, I want to understand all the hows and whys associated with what I am doing. Since registering, I've been lurking around and reading various threads here. Based on what I've learned so far, I can tell that I've come to the right place!

I've recently upgraded my burner from an ASUS 1604P to a Pioneer 112D that I have flashed with Buffalo 8.09 112L firmware courtesy of The Dangerous Brothers. I rip with Clone DVD and AnyDVD and I'm currently using Ashampoo 6.50 as my burning software. For DVD-5 burns, I'm using Verbatim MCC03RG20 DVD-R discs and for DL's I'm using Verbatim MKM-001-00 DVD+R's.

Any advice that anyone of you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hi everyone,

Just found this site. made me realize there's allot to know about drives and discs and such.

Just got a new computer, came loaded with vista Home Premium. I'm pretty happy with it so far; especially since my ISP just fixed my slow speeds. They were fast about it and just changed out the modem and something outside, and boom. 9 MB/sec. I'm flying as far as I'm concerned, I haven't had my own computer since Windows 95 was the big deal.

I'm trying to figure out a few things but I'll prolly start a thread about it somewhere. Basicly, my drive was locking up windows explorer pretty hard. trying to learn how to burn these newfandangled DVDs.

Also, the drive is being identified by windows as a generic CD-ROM drive. what's up with that?

Cheers,
BPS

You most likely have an autolaunch program checking discs as you insert them. Either players, or packet writing software.
Disable player software autolaunch, and uninstall packet writing (drag and drop to disc) software.

Completely normal.

Admitting that you've illegally downloaded movies/songs and need help to process/burn is comparable to robbing a bank, and walking into the bank the next day holding the bags of money to deposit them into your account.
Don't be surprised if people laugh at you when you make the headlines.

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hi people!

I´m Serazor, I live in Portugal and I have a Asus laptop equipped with a LG GMA-4082N, and a recently aquired Sony/Nec - Optiarc AD-7173A conected to my laptop with a USB to Serial adapter.
I chose this solution because I burn a lot and I dont want to overload my internal drive and Its cheaper than buying a external one.

I currently use Ridisk Extreme 16X DVD-R, and Tuff Disk Grade A+ CD-R 52X. I heve had zero problems with these media but if I can find media as good as these even cheaper I will be a happy man :-)

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hello, chaps.
I actually joined a while ago to get some specific help (thanks, btw).
I found a link to the forums on Google today when trying to find a good dvd-r so thought I'd say hello.

I'm 50 (ouch) and live in the UK.
My system is an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ on an Abit KN8 Ultra.
2 gb of Corsair XMS DDR 400
2x 250gb Samsung Spinpoint sata II HD
XFX 7900GT XXX 256mb
NEC 4550 and NEC 3500 (I think)
Win XP Pro SP2 with all the updates

Occasionally I actually get to use it as my son is in a Counterstrike clan and I need a crowbar to get him off it. Then it's time to beat my daughter to get her off msn and myspace.
THEN, at about 2 am, I can have a go

OK...welcome Slammer

Here´s a tip: where and when I grew up, if you were old enough to read and write (yer msn fixated daughter!), or fight for the clan (= yer son), then you were old enough to get a part-time job...
...and your own computer!

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

Hi all,

I'm currently a computer science student but I'm about to graduate so that won't last too much longer. I am on my computer quite often and it feels really odd if I'm somewhere where I can't use one.

I have signed up for these boards after coming across them quite a few times using google and finally figuring out that I should just join this community which has helped me a few times without knowing it .

Hi andejp12,

I was a Computer Information Systems (CIS) student until I graduated (Magna Cum Laude) last May. I've learned a lot here...and the good part is...it's free!

Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi !

my name is Oscar. I was interested in computers before my accident but not as much as I am now after I'm a quadriplegic for the past four or five years. I have had the same laptop for the past couple years and even though some people might think it is old I still find it fascinating to know how it works from the inside out. I also spend lots of time on the computer. I use a simple voice recognition program some people might think there's not too much I can do with my computer but where there's a will there's a way. -that's a matter of fact. so I was just reading more than a few messages above this one it went from bios to something else sorry if I was jumping off subject but at the top it said introductions on another note is something is misspelled incorrect my apologies my computer is manipulated by voice and most of the time it's about 75 percent correct
