| Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi ! Hi all, Steph here from Wales, UK. Just joined to keep up with the latest news, read other people's problems so that when I get them (as I have suffered loads in the past) I can help myself out. Great to meet lots of likeminded people who are interested in the same stuff as me, can't say my family agree with my past time in front of a mediocre 17" monitor, but it beats Eastenders any day!!!! |

| Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi ! Saludos.. Hello to all. As a newbie, I'm here to learn and glad to share what little I know. Although I've worked with computers most of my life, it's still a mystery to me. I recently purchased a PC off the shelf with too many bells and whistles that are going to take some time to get used to. All I really wanted was the hardware (AMD-64 dual processor w/220+ gig hard drive) so this was cheaper than building one - Christmas sale, couldn't resist. I'll be looking forward to recording some World Cup Games as soon as I figure out how to squeeze a full game minus the commercials and time outs in one rinky-dink 120 min dvd. Any ideas? |

Getting a single game onto 1 DVD should be no trouble at all, although DVDs often advertise as '120 minutes', you can actually fit that and alot more to a single DVD, depending on the 'bitrate' and 'resolution' you use. For example, most DVD content uses a resolution of 720x480 (720x576 in some parts of the world), but there are lower resolutions that you can use that will allow for as much as 6 hours or more of video on a single disc, of course you'll sacrifice quality in the process. Without getting any further into to technical details, you have two major options for recording TV content onto a DVD - buy a TV tuner card for your computer, record to your computer's hard drive, and eventually burn to a DVD with a DVD burner. Your other option is to buy a 'standalone' DVD Recorder, like a VCR, and use it directly with your TV. A standalone DVD Recorder is a simpler process, but there is less flexibility vs. using your computer and it is often more expensive than starting off with an inexpensive TV tuner card. Good luck and if you have further questions you can post them in the appropriate forum where they'll be seen by more people. | |

| Re: Introduce yourself: Say hi ! Hi! I'm a newbie - just joined - from Sydney, Australia. Great threads, great service. I'm trying to decide which DVD external burner to buy between Pioneer DVR 111D, Black BenQ DL16X, Sony DVD 16 or some other one. I'm running a PowerMac G3, 500 Mz, 256 Mb, 20 Gig HD, System 9.2 and USB 1. I would like to put jpgs from recent extended trip, which are currently on 52 CD's, onto DVDs with either text and/or audio titles to send to friends/relatives in other parts of the world. Any suggestions? inkur |
