How to use VirtualDub

Hi,

I'm trying to use VirtualDub, but every time I try to open an avi file, I get an error message not unlike this one :

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DX50' (unknown)

VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable."

Am I missing some files ?
If so, can some one give me a link to download those files ?

Thanks.

Etymonix MPEG-2 VfW Codec v1.10.

That should do it.

Doesn't seem to work. I get the same error.
It looks like the etymonix codec is only for viewing, and i want to use VirtualDub to check for bad frames.

Does someone else can give me a hint ?

My mistake.

AFAIK DX50 = DivX5

Download and install this and now you should be good to go.

I just did a search on www.google.com for "DX50 codec" and found my answer. Normally I would just recommend installing codecs as the need arises. When you go to play something VirtualDub should tell you which codec is needs. Instead of DX50 next time there will be something else there (the required codec). Just do a search on google and you should have no problems finding it.

Re: How to use VirtualDub

How do I start to use VirtualDub? I have a couple of thousand tifs and jpegs and was using Windows Movie Maker to create an animated cartoon but have now been advised to use VirtualDub which I installed today but have no idea how to import, and process, the files. Any advice gratefully accepted.
I am sure I am posting this in the wrong place but cannot find the New Thread button
