How to read previous sessions on CD?

oh dear...im lost. Have searched through the forums but cant find an answer to my question.

I have a new dvd/cd rom burner NEC DVD-RW ND-4550A and using Nero 6601 for burning.

My problem is that I just burned some important files to my daughter's cd as data but now when i go to read the cd the only thing showing are the ones i just burned. Everything else is simply not showing up. I am using a cd-r not rw if that makes any difference so I know they must be there somewhere - just cant see them.

That was apparently the 24th multi session of burning to that disc. Can anyone help me please. The cd contains all her A Level college work....gulp...she'll kill me.

How can I get them to show again. Neither the dvd burner nor my standard cd player on the comp will show them.

One other thing....if you dont mind? Whenever I try to play a dvd there is no sound. picture is fine...cd's play fine... but not dvd's - am i missing something?

Sorry for being a pain but when i started out my hair was down to my waist...now i'm almost bald!

Any help will be so appreciated!
thanks!

Re: help please....new...and lost!

try holding the shift key down while inserting the burned disc in the the drive.....keep the shift key held down until after the cd door closes and you actually hear the cd spin up.......after the light stops flickering...then release the shift key and see if you can see and open the other files on the disc. Good Luck!

Hope this helps

Re: help please....new...and lost!

Thank you for replying!
I tried that but it didnt work.
I held it down for varying amounts of time but no luck on any of them. Was all excited there for a minute!

I have no idea why the shift key would/could make a difference - but it doesn't. It still only shows the last thing to be burned to the disc

As for the sound problem, I tried the shift key tip on that too....nope!

The dvd opens in windows media player. I have version 10 and this machine has all the latest updates on it ... maybe the fault lies in there somewhere? In WMP?

I don't think it's the dvd writer/reader as cd's have no problem with sound and the disc itself plays fine in a dvd player in my daughter's room.

Still at a loss here on both issues!
If you have any further input I would love to hear it. Thanks for trying to help.

Re: help please....new...and lost!

You might give IsoBuster a try. I think it will let you see all the other sessions. Good luck.

G'day
Extract the files using IsoBuster or BadCopy.

Re: How to read previous sessions on CD?

I had that problem last year and found out that windows often doesn't work well with multipsession cds/dvds. I now burn one single session disks to avoid this glitch. I found my burning program (Sonic DvD) could read the whole disk (sometimes) when windows never would.

These computers sure do teach patience? /// bobbo==and yes, IsoBuster is very good at recovering files. Google it for a free download.

Re: How to read previous sessions on CD?

Multisession is the roadmap to data loss.

These discs were intended for write once purposes.

Re: How to read previous sessions on CD?

Use ISOBuster, or the Adaptec Session Selector if you can find it...

And from now on don't use multisession, it is crap.

Re: How to read previous sessions on CD?

I have used CD-DVD Inspector Forensics version a few times and it managed to recover information of a Multisession CD when IsoBuster and UltraIso couldn’t find it. One of the best software to recover data of a CD or DVD
