Helalock CD-RX Protection and Vista

Hello New to this place, looking to tap into your collective experience.

We have PowerPoint Shows and a Viewer that were copied onto Hexalocks CD-RX discs www.hexalock.com . They work well except with Microsoft Vista they will not play. The company has produced a patch/fix for exe. files but we need to allow people to play the protected content PPT files.

Anyone know a way to get them running on Vista or to burn a copy that has some protection (for the average joe) that will function with Vista?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Canadian Eh

Re: Helalock CD-RX Protection and Vista

Hexalock is a seldom used copy protection and so far as I am aware, no-one has yet worked out a way of making a working copy of a hexalock protected cd.

You might try this though.

If that's too much trouble, you have a choice. Either press hexalock to provide a solution that works with Vista (presumably that's part of what you're paying them for anyway) or dispense with your copy protection altogether (so that your customers can actually access the content that they've purchasedfrom you).

Are the PPT files not opening through your exe on Vista, but are OK on XP?

Re: Helalock CD-RX Protection and Vista

There is an error with something called HCPS loader. The disc will not play. Usually the Veiwer will fire up and a menu with out 3 Powerpoint showns pops up. The user clicks them to fire one up.

Hexalock released a "fix" for exe protected files From their site :
What is the compatibility of HexaLock protected EXE files on CD’s in the Vista Operating System?

The new Vista Operating System from Microsoft Corp. contains several operational parameters, which may create compatibility issues when running Hexalock protected CD’s on Vista enabled PC’s. Hexalock has been in close contact with Microsoft to resolve these issues, and with their help, have developed a tool that will allow CD’s containing HexaLock copy protected program EXE files to run in the Vista OS. Click on this link below to download the Vista update Utility for your AutoLock Wizard software:

What operating systems can be used to run the AutoLock Wizard?

The AutoLock Wizard and other HexaLock software are designed to run in Windows 2000 through XP, SP-2 operating systems.

Can already made discs be upgraded to run in the Vista operating system?

Yes, on CD’s containing protected EXE files only. HexaLock has developed a Utility, which allows HexaLock Protected program EXE files to work properly in the Microsoft Vista Operating System. Here is the link to our Vista compatibility Utility.

How is a HexaLock copy protected CD authenticated?

HexaLock authentication process reads information from the unique set of elements added to every HexaLock copy protected CD and uses it to unlock the protected file(s). If the user attempts to use an illegal copy, the unique set of elements will not be found, and the protected file(s) will not be unlocked.
