Welcome to CD Freaks, SoloChick.

Did you install XP Service Pack 2, after the basic XP install?

Re: uhh help.....

OK is this a complete reinstall from scratch, or a 'repair' reinstall...

Hmmm... OK that is strange. I've amended your thread title to something a bit more descriptive so hopefully someone a bit more knowledgeable will look in and help .

ialmrnt5 is a file found in Intel's display driver.
Did you download the latest driver from Intel's site?
If so. I recall seeing some reports of issues on some setups with this driver. Dell should be able to supply you with an early (more compatible) version from their support website.

Also your comment did you download all the need updated from Dell site to a cd/dvd so that you can do a install update after you did a recovery on your Dell??? Your problem is a odd one sounds like drivers didn't like windows or windows didn't like something in the game install?? Did you try in uinstall the game and reboot and see what happened to the other working game?? Also when you installed the game did you reboot the computer even though it may ask you to reboot it's always a safe bet to reboot anything you install anything on windows...Have you installed anyother hardware or software inbetween the game installation???

Pretty stupid of Dell, because they have an excellent driver database at www.dell.com

Go to www.dell.com, hover the mouse on support (big blue bubble with white question mark) , click on drivers and downloads.

Then fill in the tag number of your Dell computer (found on a black sticker with white letters somehwere on your Dell computer or behind a grey plastic piece) and follow the instructions.

Then get the latest Intel driver software for your operating system.

Anytime you get a CRC error, it's worth running a surface scan on your HDD; sectors go bad from time to time and running the check will mark them as bad and prevent them from being used.

Well from my usage of preinstalled software on computers Dell or HP or whom else makes them the updates on their site or company site that creates the software is going to be updates you will need. I doubt they would send you the download on a cd/dvd of the updates...I should know I updated my brother-in-law computer at his shop and there where plenty of updates for his computer on their web site after I did a Restore disk that came originally with the computer and same goes for his computer at home. So the reason I asked was that I never heard of them sending you the updates when the most likely sent you the Restore cd/dvd only...no the actually updates listed on their web site...But I would also say get a HDD software from the HDD manufacture and scann and run test on your HDD to determine its health as well..ie...WD you would go to WD site and download their WD HDD software test and fix program...

I am confused after reading your what you replied back. So do you have or have not the restore cd/dvd for your Dell computer? Also what kinda Dell do you have? When I mean updates for your Dell specifically what I mean is one the website they have a specific model that your brand is and there they will have the software and hardware and firmware updates that you can download and put onto CD incase in the future you have to do a complete restore of your computer. Restore cd/dvd contains the factore setup that they have ready to go that what I am asking about...the last part of your reply is confusing?? Can you restate what your saying there, I don't get it??

Re: Games don't work after XP reinstall on Dell machine.

First of all, I'm sorry you're having this problem. There are days I want to throw my computer out the window as well because there are so many things that could *possibly* be wrong.

I know when I had to do a system re-install last the only thing that got me up and running again was going to Microsoft's website and downloading a ton of updates. Not sure what my computer needed but it seemed to work smoother after that.

Not sure what you're running for virus software, but could that somehow be interfering?
