Error burning DVD+R with Nero/TDK DVDRW1612DLB - Club CDFreaks

Hi

I'm having weird problems trying to burn a DVD+R that's almost full (4480+ MB)--could the near-full capacity be the issue? I've tried burning it as a new multisession DVD+R and with multisession disabled but neither work. The burning fails on session fixation. Is there any way to save these disks, i.e., for me to just "close" the session so that it becomes readable?

Don't think I can help with the problem but edit out the Nero serial number from your post.
It's at the top and is 1A23-0014-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

You've got 30 mins from the orioginal post time to do this I think.

And, your system is LOW on system resources!
Also disable multisession and resize the used content to a smaller size.

And use better media!

In the highlighted text from the log section you can see than the media ID is CMC Magnetics, which can be highly variable and often crap. Your writer wrote the disc for about 9 minutes but could not finish properly, so I would think the medium failed to record the data towards the outside of the disc.

If you insist on buying by brand, then we usually recommend Verbatim. Otherwise buy from suppliers who quote the media ID (MID) of their stock, and Taiyo Yuden is about the only reliable manufacturer around at the moment.

As _chef_ points out, you have only 10% of available system memory, so you might like to close down a few apps while burning.

Only problem is that with quoted MID's it can still mean borrowed MID's.
(So incase of Taiyo Yuden I suggest buy only from respectable stores or brands !)

You can try with ImgBurn.
Tools-> Drive-> Close-> Disc/Session/Track.

BTW, your burner is a OEM Lite-On SOHW-1653S, aged drive and not always a reliable burner. Check out Lite-On forum section for alternative firmwares.
Harware upgrade is recommemded and a 40GB HDD is far from sufficient nowday.

There's a newer firmware C7S3 for your drive (December 2004, with auto-bitsetting).

You can also use DoISO to make an ISO out of your data, which can then be burned with ImgBurn as an alternative to Nero. I suggest you Enable DMA for the CDRW that's on the same cable as your DVDRW as well and finally, if you don't use it, uninstall Nero's InCD software.

Ok I've just tried burning the data as an ISO using BurnImg, and it fails when trying to finalise the disc--it says "Finalise Disc Failed! Device: [1:0:0] TDK DVDRW1612DLB C7S3 (G

(ATAPI) Reason: No Additional Sense Information"

Is my drive dead? I've tried using 2 brands of media.

And one more thing, BurnImg reports "Media Not Present" for all these failed discs--it seems all the data is written, but the discs just can't be finalised, and even when I check them using BurnImg later, BurnImg just doesn't see them.

From your second log file, your burner's firmware recognised the medium as DAXONAZ2 but only spent 20 seconds trying to burn it at 4x before an error came up. Better media but you should definitely upgrade the firmware as Cressida suggests, and try again.

The burner must be running in UDMA mode 2 to get an average burn rate of 7.2x but the verify rate is very,very slow which is odd.

Would uninstalling the IDE drivers & installing Microsoft's ones be a good idea.

In Imgburn go to tools/settings & Device. Ensure that Disable Media Change Notification & Auto Insert Notification are both ticked. If not then tick them & reboot.

Average verify rate is probably very low at 0.5x because it spent so much time retrying the bad sectors. The bad sector position is about 11% of the way through the disc so I would guess that it was verifying at the max reported rate (about 4x) before it hit trouble.

One thing I don't know is whether the verify process of ImgBurn is confined to the physical disc or whether it compares the data content with the ISO image. The latter would tend to make it slower than expected.

Perhaps it might be worth verifying the disc alone with CD-DVD Speed.

Would uninstalling the IDE drivers & installing Microsoft's ones be a good idea.
