| dvd+rw restore to original condition I was wondering if there is a good software program to restore dvd+rw discs to their original (unfomatted) state. I have tried erasing and reformating, with Nero etc. but that funciton doesn't clean or wipe the disc to its orignal conidtion. Thanks |

| Re: dvd+rw restore to original condition Welcome to the forum ![]() I don't know if it restore the disc to the original state, but try to do a FULL erase with imgburn: this should delete anything on the disc ![]() If you are trying to recover a rewritable that give problems because it was already rewritten too many times, then the only solution is to buy a new disc |

| Re: dvd+rw restore to original condition Actually, I have serval dvd+rw that I have used on my computer that I would like to use with my Panasonic DVD player. The player will used new unformated dvd's, but it will not use or reformat a dvd+rw once it has been used by a pc drive. |

| Re: dvd+rw restore to original condition When you "erase" a disc you just do it to files - and sometimes the only thing that is done it tis to delete the file from the TOC, or the TOC (table of contents) if you do a "full erase". However there are applications that write over the files (zeros) and replace the data with this "empty" information. Where the format information lies is a dif story and can be dif to take it out. There are ways to unformat a disc, but it comes with data recovery applications - intended to restore from a format and get back the previous data. It may work if you only formated the disc once - not that sure. If you have to buy a package to do this and considering the present cost of discs (in principle you have to use slower discs with home video recorders), is it worth the money and the trouble? |

| Re: dvd+rw restore to original condition I have this exact problem with my Phillips DVD+RW Settop box. Solution, don't use Nero to erase your discs. I use DVDinfo pro to erase my discs and they work fine. This gives the option to erase or erase & format. If I just erase then the discs work correctly, if I use Nero to erase them my settop box just spits them out again as not usable.

| Re: dvd+rw restore to original condition Yes, this happens to my DVD player as well if I use Nero to erase DVD-RW disks. I usually resort to using my stand-alone DVD recorder to erase disks but I'm going to give Geno's suggestion a try. His advice is usually spot on.

| Re: dvd+rw restore to original condition I have had great luck with IMGBURN too in terms of wiping out a disk. Some disks that I format on the MAC with Toast won't read in the PC until I format them with IMGBURN. Then I can read the blank disks in both the MAC and the PC. |
