Newbie Forum Discuss, Dvd Rw Drive hsa now turned into a Cd Rw Drive at International Chat: General Topics forum; when i use alcohol it works fine when im burning iso to dvd, but when i use nero and copy on the fly it recognises the drive as only a cd drive. ive tried re installing nero and a later dated nero, tried diff media, uninstalled dvdrw then rebooted and

Dvd Rw Drive hsa now turned into a Cd Rw Drive
when i use alcohol it works fine when im burning iso to dvd, but when i use nero and copy on the fly it recognises the drive as only a cd drive.

ive tried re installing nero and a later dated nero, tried diff media, uninstalled dvdrw then rebooted and installed and so on

so basically my DVD-Rw Drive is now a CD-Rw Drive so it wont recognise dvds

any ideas

Welcome to CDF!

Uninstalling Alcohol might be something to try, as virtual drive software can sometimes cause a problem.

What is "it" here?
Your drive cannot just change from a dvd-rw to a cd-rw, it is impossible.

when i take my media out it reverts back to DVD Rw when i insert media it goes to CD-Rw i have tried 3 diff media typers

If you are referring to the way windows explorer shows the drive, don't worry: it's only a cosmetic bug of windows, nothing to worry about

i remember something like this ages ago and someone suggested changing something in the registry for the Dvdrw or something or i could be a mile away

Sorry, I don't understand: are you referring to the way windows explorer shows the drive or are you saying that you have problems with DVD media on your burner?

sorry geno it is both my windows says its a cd rw but according to the man it is just a softwre bug, but i cant copy from one disk to another on the fly

A question: Do the source drive and the destination drive are installed in the same IDE channel?

i think they might and i am now beginning to think its my master drive thats gubbed
cos i am creating an image and burning it on the same faulty suspect drive

so basically if my master dvdrw is goosed could that mess up myother drive
