dvd player to copy ntsc dvds to pal

Hello this is my first time here, hopefully someone in the uk can help me out.

For the past couple of months i've been able to fransfer most of my
sisters NTSC dvds to PAL dvds (25) using a multiregion DK player and recording onto a sharp dvd/vcr recorder, but now my DK player has broken
down and now out of stock,so i bought a denver multiregion player off the
internet, but it will not let me know make pal copies, this comes up on screen
CANNOT RECORD PROTECTED DISC,so i sent it back and bought a panasonic
multiregion player and this is doing the same thing,i don't understand why
i was not able to make copies of these ntsc dvds as the dvds are not
copyrighted ones, there just ntsc dvds some films and tv shows recorded
off US tv,can anyone recomend a multiregion player that i can buy that will
let me make more copies of these dvds.

I'm from the UK

Thanks thickas

The reason why you can't copy the disks directly is because the copy protection software Macuvision is kicking in and preventing the transfer. Your first player must have had some sort of Macuvision disabling circuit (highly illegal in most countries). I'm afraid (and I might be wrong here...wait for posts from more experienced users before making up your mind...) you'll have to use a pc-based reader/writer and go the whole DVD copying route with tools like DVD Shrink, etc. Look at this link:

Scart to scart recording?
Doesn't that give you a major quality loss?

That's the MacroVision protection indeed. The MacroVision modifies the signal on your scart cable. There are macrovision disablers, but most of them result in great quality losses.

Why not just purchase a dvd player that does this for you?
My Aristona DV434 (DVD and Divx) player can both cope with NTSC and PAL dvd's and show them in either format of your choice. Saves a lot of trouble.
