Copying to a CD

Maybe I am in the wrong forum, but I am simply looking for help with the fact that I have been trying to copy files for back up purposes to a CD-RW from my Fujitso Amilo with Windows XP using the recommended method.
I am told that the operation was a success but there is nothing on the CD. I have tried this several times backing up different files with different new CD-RMs.
I feel there is something simple I am overlooking.

Thanks for any advice

Can you provide the following information:

1. What is the recommended method that you are using? (itemise it step-by-step if you can)
2. What burning software are you using?

I am using exactly the method suggested in the Help section of Windows XP.
Do not know how to find out what burner I am using - isn't this part of XP?

OK, the possibilities are:

1. In the copy items dialogue box, you have selected a different drive from your CD-writer. Make sure it is definitely your CD-writer that you have selected.
2. Under CD Writing tasks, you haven't fully followed the CD writing wizard.

This will hopefully resolve your immediate question.

On a more permanent note. You are using the built in burning software that comes with Windows XP. This is very basic and will not allow your CD-Writer to operate at full speed and tends to be more complicated than a dedicated package. I strongly recommend that you purchase a copy of Nero Burning ROM or a similar burning software. These packages have many advantages over the in-built Windows XP burning software and are well worth the money. They all tend to come with "wizards" which hand-hold you through the burning process.

You could try burnatonce which is free burning software. It will give you a taster of what the other packages can do.

If you are copying .cda files and trying to read what is on the disc by just hilighting it, it will show 0 because it is CDFS file system, if you explore the disc you will see the 1 kb tracks, which still does not show the whole story. If they are music files try playing them.
