confused....iam

hello,
This is a dumb question, okay i want to backup a game, any game, so i pop it in the burner, i run clony, I then find out what protection it is using... what does this tell me?? I thought CloneCD would just copy it perfectly....Do i have to change the settings for diffrent types of protections. If so what are they? I still dont understand why you need to know what tye of protection the cd is using. Any response to this dumb question will help. Thanks

Because the games have different protections like: SafeDisk ,SecurRom ,LaserLok , Cactus or SafeDisk 2 . Thats why you have to make different settings in CloneCD. Use Clony XL - that will help you understand about the protections.

ex. for Safe Disk 2 settings are :
-Fast error Skip
-read speed max = 4x
-read retries = 3
-error corrections = none (keine)

That and you have to make sure that certain options are supported by your writer. Not all writers are supported by CloneCD for various options.

If you know the capabilities of your writer and it supports everything, then for you Clony is a waste of time.

In CloneCD, check every option except "Don't correct SubChannel Data (Only check this for PSX games)" and you should be able to kick any protection in the ass.

Not true. I've had games stop working because of Intelligent Bad Sector Scanner, and Don't correct subchannel data can't hurt, can it?

Don't repair the Subs shouldn't hurt as long as there's no SubChannel Data present on the disc. The IBSS option should be used with care since this option can skip 'healthy' sectors. The other options can be checked but it's up to you. There's no guarantee it'll work without problems.

The AWS option should also be used with care. Check if your burner supports Correct EFM Encoding and what disc type (original, back-up, AWS back-up) you're using.

> Don't correct subchannel data can't hurt, can it?

By choosing this option you take the risk of writing
wrong datas in R-W subchannels, and therefore to
get bad CD+G/CD-Text copies. Securom does not
use these subchannels so this option should not
make any difference... actually i don't know a single
protection which would make a difference if you use
this option all the time.

Securom has always used SubChannels.

Please pay attention to what I write : I said
that Securom does not use R-W subchannels,
only Q. Wether this option is ticked or not or
grayed does not matter for Securom.

It's true that only PSX CDs require uncorrected Q channel data. If it's corrected the guard module will win and not allow the title to run.

Why should you not tick this with PC titles? You tell me why you need to.

Why wouldn't you?

If it can't hurt, and backs up PSX/PS2 Cd's, what's wrong with it?

Sorry. I had a mistake too.

Check every option EXCEPT "intelligent bad sector scanner" which you should use only when needed (sparingly).

I was a little absent-minded there. Sorry about that misunderstanding.
