Command And Conquer Generals

Ok im having problems burning Generals. I am using cloneCD to read the image file (cue enabled). And I am using fireburner to write to the CD. The only problem is that when i try to play the game it generates errors and windows closes it down.

I think its because even though I have auto correct subchannels off.....it still auto-corrects the sub-channels when burning. Am I right or wrong?? Or am I doing the whole thing wrong?? HELP!!

More info required please.

What burner are you using? Are you trying to play from a cd/dvd rom or from a writer? What settings did you use to make the image with ccd and what settings in fireburner to write?

What settings do I need to copy the game? The game is protected with Safedisc v2.

I am using a _NEC DVD/CD-RW ND-1100a 108b.

Read settings for cloneCD 4.0.0 beta 9 were as follows:

Read Retries 3
Error Correction: None

Allow reading of Subchannel Data from Data Tracks: Unchecked

Allow reading of subchannel data from Audio Tracks: Unchecked

Allow reading of CD-Text form Audio CD's: Unchecked

Write settings for the same DVD/CD-RW as above are as follows:
Software: Fireburner 2.1.7

Disc-at-once 96 enabled
Close CD
Eject when finished and BURN proof are the only two boxes checked under "other"

Does that about cover it?? Please let me know if you need more information.

Since you have a zero sheep burner, you have two chances of making a working copy with fireburner. Buckleys and none.

Try alcohol with Bypass efm error and/or clonecd with AWS. If neither works, then update to the latest version of ccd and use emulate weak sectors. A copy made that way will work so long as ccd is on your system with hide cdr media enabled when you play.

Your going to have to forgive my newbieness, but i have no idea what "zero sheep" means. Judging by the context it means that my hardware sucks and that i need to download "Alcohol" and use that software to burn the game from the image file.

I havent a clue of what you mean by using Bypass efm error.....and what does AWS stand for again??

I thought I had the latest version of clone CD already......so what IS the latest version if I dont already have it??

And finally where do i configure the "Hide CD-R media enabled" option when i play the game.

Thanks for your time and patience.

Ok here is some info.

If you look up and over to the right there is a button that says search which would have probably answered a few of the questions.

Ok now that Ive stated that,
AWS means Amplify weak sectors
EFM is eight to fourteen modulation, this is the patterns of bits that get wrote to the cd( that is a short explanation),
Sheep, Zerosheep and 2 sheep burner refer to if the burner can correctly right the efm to the cd. This comes from clonecd's website because there are pictures of sheepheads next to the burners. If you have a burner that has a picture with 2 sheep heads, that means that cd burner will correctly write the efm, which, what is needed to be able to back up some of the protected games. If you see a burner with no sheep than, you more than likely not be able to backup c*C generals.

hide cd-r media should pop-up when the task bar is loaded. I am using a slightly older version of clonecd and it might be some where else in other versions.

Clone cd web page
http://elby.ch
amd look at this also

http://www.elby.ch/english/products/...ers/n.html#nec

And if you are backing up safedisc games most of the times, all you want checked is fast error skip.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Everyone

Ok I got the game to work but in a different way.

When I downloaded Alcohol It created a virtual CD-ROM. So what I did was created the image file using alcohol and then mounted the image file onto the virtual CD-ROM. Played just fine. Same thing with the new Clone CD. So now I have two virtual CD-ROM drives. I guess thats a good thing. :P

As far as a working back-up goes, however, I am still having trouble. I'm pretty sure that my hardware is the problem.

I still cannot find the AWS option on Clone CD. Maybe im being retarded or somthing...its probably somewhere right in front of my face and im just not seeing it.

I am also having trouble finding the efm option in Alcohol 120%.

But right now im perfectly happy because I can now play the game which means I can now give it back to my friend who is ready to kill me.......

Thanks for all your help, time, and patience. I will continue my quest for knowledge in this area.
