| Clone CD and clony xxl problems.... Hi guy! Here is what I have installed : clone cd, and clony xxl, but without alcohol 120% which I did install, and uninstalled it 'cause alcohol install a virtual drive, ( is it really needed for backing up games ? ) and clony xxl wouldn't read the protected disk, and because of this I uninstalled alcohol 120%, so now with alcohol uninstalled , clony xxl is asking for the ASPI driver, ( but it will read the game CD ok, and report the type of protection the game have) so now I downloaded the ASPI driver from Clone xxl indicated link , but I didn't install ( the ASPI) yet! 'Cause when I opened the aspi software it indicated a scsi driver, and the only scsi drive in my rig is the iomega zip 100, the other two drives are: a supported Sony RW crx 220e, and my LG cd reader, so first of all I desperately need a complete tutorial ( in English) for CLONY XXL, I've google searched for it but with poor results, and without it, it's like shooting in the dark ![]() I know this is the right forum site and some of you wizards can direct me to it. and the second part of the problem is: How cand I resolve the issue of the aspi driver, which is causing a lot of problems in making a backup of my 18 games, that so far cost me lots of kudos. Thx a billion ![]()

| Hi I did the search thing for clony xxl tutorial and all I got was my tread and other unrelated stuff, but no tutorial on clony xxl was found so if you know exactly where is a Tutorial for Clony XXL. It would simplify things , no? Rather then reading a bunch of treads that don't relate to it, so since I'm a newbie on this subject, it would be nice of you or someone "else" that know about this subject to post a nice and well detailed description\tutorial that puts the light on how to set it up and use this program properly, well..... you know what I mean, right! Cheers ![]()

| ClonyXXL is a general purpose scanner and will search for a number of different protections on your CD's. When you start the program up for the first time you need to select your CD Rom drive and drive letter. When you have finished you need to click the Nachstes Laufwerk button. Don’t worry about this being in German as later we will turn to English. Once pressed the next screen that comes up lets you change the drive letter assignment before going into the program. If there are correct then hit yes to continue. At this point it will ask you to restart the program. You don’t need to restart the computer just re-launch the program again. Now the proper program will start up. However it will be in German the first time that you start it up. To change it into English, click on the Optionen/ Tools button. Here you can change the language to English and set a few other options such as changing your CD drives letters and looking at the tracks on the CD. Hit the English Flag and then go to Scan Options. In here you can change the way that the program scans the CD. I would set it the options to Look For Defective Sectors and scan every sector. You will also want to Scan Hard Drive For SecuRom New/ ProtectCD5/ StarForce 3 and to Scan For Copy Protection. Also you will want to turn on the option to Scan For Dummy Files. Once you have finished click Apply to go back to the main menu. To close down the side panel with the options in it just click the Options/ Tools button again. Finally all you have to do is click the Scan CD button. This can take between 10 seconds and 30 minutes depending on what protection is on the CD and if the program needs to scan your hard drive as well. You can see how far it has to go by looking at the Progress Bar at the bottom of the screen. Once it has finished scanning it will also give you a guide to how hard this CD will be to copy. This is just a guide and with newer drives and software can be wrong. There maybe a number of other protections. Some just have Dummy Files protection it, some need to be over-burnt onto the new CD and others have a combination of these and more. Make a note of the protection because you will need it later to read and then write the CD correctly if you are going to use Alcohol 120% or CloneCD.

| Womble thank you for this tutorial the best I've ever seen, I did a save for future use, but I have still a problem with Clony xxl and alcohol 120%. I'll start with Alcohol 120%, after I installed it, there is a virtual drive that I find registered on my device manager\CD Rom, and a addition in the scsi and raid controllers, it seems to me that the virtual drive is a scsi drive, (that pose no problem for the overall use of my system which is wxp pro) and I also see the scsi driver listed in add\rem, so far so good! Now after installing Alcohol 120%, the problem start with Clony xxl v2006 (with installer) or Clony xxl. exe(ram), when I open ether programs it display only the CD reader drive\ master, but not the CD writer drive \slave, and in place, it display the virtual drive, and with this setup when I insert a game and run it, I see the game icon on the top left of the window and when I click scan CD button, it does it's thing and after a short scan, it report as No CD in the drive, now if I uninstall Alcohol 120% ,and open Clony xxl it will first pop up screen that say that clony xxl has encountered a problem and is shutting down, and send a report and by clicking No on this dialog box, it close the program, now when I reopen clony xxl , the next pop up box tell me about the aspi driver is missing, and how to get it , well closing that box will get me back to clony xx and all seems normal, both cd rom drive are displayed, so now I insert the game in the CD rom reader etc, etc but now I get a full display on the game protection code type with no problem, what gives here, any suggestion PS: Can a game or music be backed up with Clone CD and Clony XXl only....Or Alcohol 120% is a must. Thx & Cheers

Lucky I have the same O/S as you so I gave this a quick go. Unluckly after I installed Alcohol my ClonyXXL 2.0.1.5 still works fine, WITH the extra drive viewable in the drop down menu. What sounds like is happening is that the program is getting confused between your REAL drive and the VIRTUAL drive that Alcohol installs. As I said though on my system it works fine which isn't great news for me finding a solution to it. You can turn off the Virtual Drive (temp or for ever) by going into the Options menu in Alcohol then Virtual Drive. This would be a quicker way that uninstalling the program each time. At present that is the best solution I can give you. Sucks though dosn't it unfortunatly. P.S. The only thing I could suggest is installing ForceASPI 4.60. You can get it from here.. WinXP doesn't use ASPI, although thinking about it I believe that to run correctly ClonyXXL might need it installed. If you do decide to install it and need help then PM or post your questions here. Hope this (somehow) helps you.

| First off you need to extract it with WinRAR. This program is much like WinZip. You also need this program call aspiCHK Once you have extract ForceASPI (I suggest to your desktop so that you can find it easily) open up the forceASPI folder and run the progams in this order. dumpASPI - backup your old ASPI if things go wrong instASPI - Installs new ASPI Now reboot your PC. If you don't restart then the drivers don't start up. aspiCHK - Will tell you if everything is OK. Green logo on left hand side is good sign. Thats it. You should now have the ASPI layer installed. Hope this solves your ClonyXXL problem.

| Dont forget to run KILLASPI inbetween DUMPASPI and INSTASPI... This is necessary because Windows will not allow the overwriting of newer system files with older system files... This is only if you have an ASPI layer for some reason or another. If you run ASPICHK and your sys comes up N/A then you are ok...if any probs are encountered, kill the layer and all should be good. Here is the link to the author's page, he has a lot of info... http://aspi.radified.com/ |

| Womble I just read my mail and I like to thank you for the excellent link. On the clony xxl thing, I got every thing ready to do the aspi install , but first I like to update on what I've tried so far. I just re installed clone cd "without the virtual drive for now" and clony xxl, and now upon opening clony xxl, it open a dialog box complain about; first the error of some kind about terminating or closing clony xxl and\or reporting that error, so I click NO and it crashes, and when I reopen clony, now the next dialog box ask for the aspi file and where to get it bla.bla bla, then I close that dialog box as well, and reopen clony xxl again, now it will open without the aspi layer\file, and of course no virtual drive, in normal shell format, and it will report the CD protection type, of 9 out of 10 games that I have tested so far, but haven't tried to burn a backup yet ! I'll try on a RW disk first and see how it goes, and I'll report back. Cheers
